I thought it would be a good idea for us to have a list of companies that have shown non support of hunting, such as certain airlines and the cargo ban, or of any company that directly supports anti hunting endeavors. Companies can certainly be added or removed from the list as positions change.

I believe it is also a good idea to put a short explanation of what they've done.

  • Delta Airlines- restricted trophy cargo
  • American Airlines- restricted trophy cargo
  • United Airlines- restricted trophy cargo
  • British Airways - total trophy ban
  • Virgin Airlines - total trophy ban (Any Virgin brand, or anything else owned by Richard Branson should be included)
  • Air Canada - restricted trophy cargo
  • Saskatoon Inn (Coast Hotels) - cancelled African Expo
  • Holiday Inn - cancelled African Expo in Toronto

With some quick research I was also surprised to find that companies likeREI and Patagonia may belong here as well. I will need to do some more research on those, or have someone else confirm, before adding them though.

I'm sure there are many more, so everyone please add. It is little things like this that can make a difference!

Good idea Royal, I m afraid to see the list of antis

The key here will be not just to avoid the named entities, but to let them know each and every time you have avoided them.

So, for example, if you are travelling, and are not staying at a Holiday Inn, you should let Holiday Inn know that you aren't staying with them, and that it's a result of their position on hunting.

I don't think whether you would have stayed at a Holiday Inn is to the point - you could have stayed at one, but didn't.

If we don't do this, then they will never know they've lost business, and this list will be helpful for us, but won't do anything to stop the erosion of the "good guys".

I would suggest, equally, that if the opportunity arises, we tell the people we are using, that we are using them in preference to those who have taken an anti-hunting and anti-hunter stand.

Carrots and sticks. As someone said.

Was kind of my of point in that other thread. Let the good ones know we thank them for supporting or at least not looking down on hunting. We need to make this fight not only about the ones not for hunting.

Lets tell the good ones why we use them over another business. Must of the time these companies fold to the pressure of a few thousand anti's. I know we are more then a few thousand who want to keep there right to hunt. Lets not just react to something bad happening and lets make something good happen for us as a group of hunters

REI I figured would be on the list. They always struck me as being a little anti. But Gerber and Muck boot is shocking. Who buys muck boots other then hunters!!!

LAND ROVER

LAND ROVER
That explains a lot! They are so anti hunting that they break down on the way to the hunt! Lol. Owned one, never again! Besides the fact the dealer was a pompous prick.

Sorry Bruce. Lunch was called, and I thought I had left the thread open to finish it off and got distracted. Fingers in first gear and brain stuck in neutral.
Cape Union Mart was involved with a dispute on whether they were anti hunting. There was then a "retraction" of a statement, and I can't remember what the outcome was in the end.
I'll have to look for it.

EESSHH.. Marius, what is the buzz with Cape Union Mart? I buy lots of stuff from them... never knew they were ANTIS??

Here is what I found:

You will no doubt have read the emails flying back and forth concerning a
request from KZN Hunting and Conservation Association to Cape Union Mart for
"members to receive a discount on purchases at your stores." This email is
attached. I, as the marketing coordinator, replied to this request as
follows:

"Hi Peter

While I can understand that your organization exercises ethical and
professional hunting, I, unfortunately, am not willing to create an
association between Cape Union Mart and your organization. Hunting is a
sensitive subject for most of our employees and customers and I simply
cannot risk the potential negative exposure.

I hope you will understand our position.

Kind regards

Georgina Cartwright"

This was the reply.

"We feel that this discussion has been blown out of context. I will be the
first to admit that my choice of words was too strong. Instead of saying
that I was "unwilling," perhaps I should have said that I was "unable" to
create an association between Cape Union Mart and KZN Hunting and
Conservation Association. Everyone knows that hunting is a sensitive
subject, and as the marketing department we are in the difficult position of
trying to bear all of our varied customers in mind. This responsibility
results in us frequently declining requests for sponsorship and discounts.
This includes many conservation associations and environmental trusts. We
support organizations based on our marketing endeavors of that time. When I
refer to "potential negative exposure" this is not to say that Cape Union
Mart feels that hunting is a bad thing. What it means is that we have to
consider those customers who are strongly against hunting.

If you examine my original email, I make no reference to Cape Union Mart
considering hunting as an inappropriate activity. Some members of the
hunting community have voiced their unwillingness to shop at our stores
"until Cape Union Mart realises you can have a positive involvement with the
hunting / outdoors people." We feel this is unfair. We in no way indicated
that we did not appreciate the patronage of hunters and outdoor lovers. The
Outdoors is our business, and the outdoor community is one that we respect
greatly. If every single outdoor organization that we declined sponsorship
to threatened to stop visiting our stores, we would all be out of work! It
is a great pity that we cannot support every single sponsorship/discount
request, but it is even more of a pity when a misunderstanding such as this
is created as a result.

I really hope that you will understand our position. I have received many
angry emails asking whether I am an "anti-hunting vegetarian." I assure you
that I enjoy my meat.

I wish to apologise to all members of the hunting community who have been
led to believe that Cape Union Mart does not support hunting. As I said
before, this is not the case. "

Verizon. They suddenly dropped the Outdoor Channel and the Sportsman Channel. They continued Al Jazeera.
That says everything about Verizon.
