Hi Matt,

As you are interested, I shall start doing some research for the SA side of things. I might need some help on the US side of things. Not sure where to gather information on when the stock arrives at the US.

I have mailed some people and waiting for feedback.

Guys if everything goes well we should see the Peregrine bullets available in the US in the next six months.

They have already gotten everything together to do so but are still waiting to get final approval from the ATF.

I made a few calls a month or so back and was very happy to find they already have a rep here in the US and all the wheels turning.

as much as i dislike the Hornady DGX, i wouldnt call shooting bullets into sand a fair test of bullets performance. sand is going to be much different then tissue and bone.

a better test would be to get two live or dead cows/buffalo and shoot them in the shoulder bone on a broad side shot. if dead the animal must be fully intact will all organs still in place and unfrozen. i think the most cost effective way would be to find a farm that needs to cull a couple female buffalo. document the performance and photograph the recovered bullets.

Fair enough, I agree. Was just interesting at the time when were practicing on the range.

I have a few DGX's for my 500NE and will do some testing next time I have a few buff cows that need to be taken off the reserve.

I have heard MANY bad stories re the Hornady DGX but have used them on buff with my 458 WM ( 500GR) and always had good to excellent performance. I also used the Hornady DGS 500gr on elephant... interested to know what the real gripes are around these bullets.

i havent tried the DGX personally because i prefer either bonded or monometal bullets for DG. ive seen numerous recovered DGX bullets and have yet to be impressed by them.

i shot my buffalo with a Swift A-frame and the results were typical of the A-frame... perfect. the only reason i even considered using a different bullet (Peregrine) is because the accuracy of the 570gr Swift A-frame from my 505 Gibbs wasnt fantastic and i dont have a solid to match its point of impact.

thanks for you input here. I also only use Swift A frame in 300gr with my 375 H & H rifles. Have always had great success with A frame. Will see if I can get A frames in 500gr for the 458 WM for my next buff hunt in Zim Feb 2016. Also hunting elephant on this trip so need to get a matching solid for accuracy issues??

Just a follow up on my earlier post. As per Peregrine (as said, always very helpful), seeing that the bullets aren't brass it should be no problem sending it. As long it is person-to-person. I cannot send it to a dealer for instance. Then you require import permits etc.

The guy I have spoken to said he can even do it himself in personal capacity, cutting me out as the middle man (so it will be cheaper) :) So if anyone is interested, PM me and I can put you in touch with him.
 
I suppose another option is for returning hunters to take some peregrines back to the states? OR outfitters going across to the SCI shows etc... not sure how the customs works in this regard?

Until our final permits are in place in the US we do send over some bullets to the US on request. Any one in the US that is interested in Peregrine Bullets can drop me an e-mail. I will gladly assist anyone!

That is how they've gotten the limited supply for testing etc to the US so far.

Getting them back into the US in your luggage as a returning hunter in small quantities is no problem. If it were me I'd just put a few boxes in my rifle case for the return trip and maybe a couple in my checked baggage.

OK... so there is a temporary plan in place already. I see the guys from Peregrine have also actioned a plan to export bullets to the States by next year sometime.

YKep, according to their rep here in the states it should happen in the next six months. They are just waiting on the final approval from ATF.
