AUSTRALIA: MORE VIOLENT CRIME DESPITE GUN BAN

From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent;

Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria..... lone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late! Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in?

WHY? You will need it. FORWARD TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST.

DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THE SILENT MAJORITY.

BE ONE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON'T STAND FOR NONSENSE

Australian politicians are at a loss period. What a pathetic bunch of wankers. The Liberal mind at work

ha ha ha wankers , is putting it mildly ,lcq
all them guns are auto. semi autos and pumps by the look of them shotguns
my guess is they are from the nineties ,when all them good ones were band ....

This happened quite a few years ago. It was the most conservative Australian Prime Minister and his cabinet that we have had in decades who brought in these laws. Not the more liberal side of Australian politics. If I was a conspiracy theorists, I'd guess they wanted to disarm the workers.

The ban was on semi-auto rifles and an amnesty on unregistered firearms. A lot were handed in and a lot went missing once they crossed the front counter at the police stations who collected them. We now have a thriving industry of importing illegal handguns.

Since then, there has been a surge in registered firearms ownership and there are now more privately owned firearms in Australia than when the 'buy back' was introduced and a larger participation in hunting and shooting sports.

We have a culture of firearms ownership and use in Australia but nothing like the Gun Culture in the USA. Please, don't expect everyone to be 'just like you'. There are good and bad in both systems.

IMO, the Australian government's have always been heavily influence be minority groups and re-active / destructive media reporting. As responsible firearms owners we all owe it to ourselves and each other to ensure we are members of a club or association which can promote a political voice. Too many firearms owners in our country are not affiliated with any group, which will always put us on the back foot when the time comes for further reckoning.

Ok Wankers and a waste of rations. Same crap happened here in Canada when a Muslim mental case went into a Montreal University and killed 14 women. We created a useless gun registry that cost $2 billion and had zero effect on crime. 2 years ago the current government shit canned the useless and expensive registry and crime went down, no blood running in the streets as predicted. Sadly it looks like the Liberals (authors of the registry and most draconian gun laws) appear set to win the election this Monday. The head of the Liberal party released a platform stating that under his government Police not Politicians would make gun laws. Scary shit

I cry every time that I see the truckloads and piles of rifles and shotguns that were either confiscated or turned in in Australia during this time.

confiscation is just a nice word for stealing that governments use

Yes it was a massive waste of time, money and good firearms. Even the Aust Fed Govt department responsible for keeping track of all things statistical have come out and said the buy back did nothing to reduce crime, in fact violent crimes have increased.

Just want to make sure that everyone knows that this is old news. It happened in the late 90s. No less true, but old never the less. I think it has only made news now among gun owners is that someone attending a Hillary function asked her about it.

Hey we just got rid of our Gun Registry in Canada and the government bureaucrats are already planning a new one and more gun bans for the newly elected government. Sadly many hunters voted for these idiots thinking only handguns and semiautos will be targeted. Now they are going to pay and in a big way.

The sales on PVC pipe will be going through the roof soon

Yep, old news as such. The buy back (Steal back is a better term) was in 1996. I saw the rally where Hilary C was asked about this. Looked and sounded like a pre arranged question to me. For those in the US you can bet your bottom dollar that if Clinton gets in she will try some thing like that or introduce categories of licence and to meet the conditions to own a semi auto, pump action will be damned near impossible.

its sad that your human right of owning a gun can be taken away like that. they treat us like sheep!

The sheep in this country don't even need to be corralled. You just offer them 'free' stuff paid for by others of course, tell them what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear and they line up as fast as possible.

Phil thanks for that link. I will be reading it in it's entirety.

Does not matter what country that formula of freebies and hearing what you want to hear work everywhere.

Old news yes, but yet it seems history keeps repeating itself.

In 1996 when "National Uniform Gun Laws' were introduced ( bit of a laugh here at there is nothing uniform about them as the laws differ from state to state) it was argued by SSAA and other organisations supporting not just hunters but firearms owners in general that the new laws would do nothing to curve crime rates.

Once again recently, we had a incident outside a Parramatta Police Station where a 15 yo boy from middle- eastern decent was brainwashed by radical extremists. The revolver he was given to perform his Jihad showed no record of ever being imported into the country through the legal ways.

The point is, as it always was, they can ban firearms altogether but criminals will still have them!

We used to be a lucky country here in Australia but that is now that distant a memory it verges on being a dream. Unfortunately we have too many- no I should rephrase that. We have a very vocal minority of do gooders who have the media's sympathy/ support. I'm not getting into hidden agendas or conspiracy theories. I'll leave that in the gutter and concentrate on the facts that I know. The politicians keep putting the goal post back further and further each quarter, so that the MAJORITY are too busy working trying to make a dollar, putting food on the table and keeping a roof overhead or save for the next hunting trip, that we have no time to whinge!

The whole gun control movement here has generated massive revenue for the State Governments. The cost now and red tape one has to go through to obtain and keep a licence is ridiculous. But I am sure this is done deliberately as to deter people following it through.

One aspect of the gun by back we had in 1996 the do gooders of the time didn't think of or like was;

At one time here you could purchase a brand new SKS still in the grease for $100AUD with 100 rounds of quality steel wash/jacketed Chinese Military ammo. Alot of people I know, including myself, handed in our semi auto firearms(as I am a law abiding citizen). I was given a $600AUD check for a shot out piece of crap that I had alot of fun with. The check was taken straight back to the gunshop and used to purchase a fine No1 Ruger in 458 win.

We still have more gun laws then ever before. But my Ruger No1 is now a 500X3" Nitro and every time I shoot it I feel safer that the Government made me buy it.

Hey they paid you for your gun. In Canada the commie state take it and give you nothing

Sad, I remember this when it was in the news. Sadly in this world, we have far too many willing to trade freedom for so called security. There are also far too many who believe they will never come for the type of gun they own, just those dreaded modern sporting arms.

why wont people learn from the facts?
