Can you imagine lassoing a Giraffe?

I bet the Col. was riding a tall horse. :E Big Grin:

Say what? And if you get the rope around a Cape buffalo then what? How about a hippo? Who digs up with this old stuff?

I guess in 1910 you could convince people of anything you just put it in print! Wait is that 1910 or 2015???

Reminds me of the John Wayne movie Hatari about live capture animals for zoos.

Yep Red Buttons shooting the net over a tree full of monkeys with rockets!

Yes and putting their coat over the eyes of a rhino after lassoing him.

Lots of interesting reading squirreled away here in the AH archives.

Thanks Jerome you rock!(y)

While in Namibia I purchased the book Capture to be Free by Jan Oelofse. Jan was in charge of the care of the animals in the movie Hatari. He also had a career pioneering the capturing of wild animals in Africa. In his book there are pictures of giraffes that have clearly been team roped. One loop over the head and one catching the back hooves. How about that for a rodeo.:P Cowboy:

Buffalo Jones was a great hunter with the rope.
Much better than John Wayne in Hatari, all from horseback.
I can't remember Hippo,but they caught Lions,Buff and Rhino.
John Burger wrote about him in "Horned death" and he does not belive, that there are
another team like he and his men in America would exist, or somewhere in the world.
He was a great conservationist also.
Jones died in the border to the twentys on Malaria.
Read Zane Grey "the last of the plainsmen"
An awesome memory about this friendship.
Caustin,
congrats to your Elephant.

The idea of some moron on a horse trying to lasso a hippo, rhino or elephant and subsequently getting the crap beaten out of him is really funny.
