I guess if you miss with the bullet you can always club the animal to death!

no kidden, that monster weighs 17 pounds! I personally prefer them to be much lighter with 12-13 pounds being my limit for what id want to carry around the African bush.

That looks like a real classic Matt.

AHR does two things that keep their rifles from looking "classic". the front sight is a fiber optic rod and the finish will be satin gunkote. personally im a little unsure of the gunkote but Wayne assured me it would look great and be much more durable then standard bluing.

Well good folks I have had the Krieghoff 470NE for a few months and believe me I have been itching to shoot her,which off course is not what the Orthopedic Surgeon advised with my busted shoulder. Now because of some folks on here talking about strumming triggers etc with double rifles it pretty much started to itch right were my finger fits on the trigger so to speak. Eventually it pretty much got the better of me and I sneaked off to the range with the Krieghoff and 4 rounds of ammo,4 rounds cause I know I would fire the box if I took more. If it went well I would just enjoy shooting more and if it went poorly,I would try fix the problem,so 4 rounds would just satisfy the itch for a while.

Now this is the first double I have ever owned and fired,so it was all new to me. Having owned a 458Lott I was expecting more or less the same kind of recoil,boy was I wrong. First I make pretty sure my finger is pretty snug on the trigger so it does not slip off durring recoil and I DD the double. Off goes the shot and I am not joking when I tell you I broke the rifle to make sure it was not a DD because it sure as he'll felt like it! It was not though,just forgot how these big bores are a step up on the recoil scale compared to the silenced 308 I have been shooting with since the shoulder packed up. So next shot I make sure the rifle is snug and I hold on the way I should,I start pulling on the back trigger and nothing happens,I increase the pressure and still nothing,off course I am now so focused on the bloody trigger I relax my hold on the rifle,which is when the back trigger finally breaks and sure as hell my shoulder now understands what the difference in recoil is between a 470 and a 308. As for the target let's just say dinner plate grouping would be nice.
Second time round went slightly better but I now know I am going to have to spend some serious time on the range once the shoulder is okay. Was very happy that my monthly cortisone shot was scheduled for the next day!!

You could try using the both eyes open style as well

HHS, it is such a shame that you don't know anyone that has a .470 NE and knows how to shoot it right, meaning from the left shoulder, so that they could teach you. If only you knew someone like that... Man, it would be even better if you could find someone like that in Sweden.... And even better if it was someone you could hunt with someday....

Oh well.... People like that are just hard to find.... Right @Timt ?

Royal,it is half Timt's fault I swopped my 458 Lott for this devil gun
Right now it does not matter if I shoot left shoulder both eyes open or closed,accuracy is about the same
Will for sure have to sign a indemnity at the range next time I go

In all seriousness I wonder if it is fit, or just that your shoulder is stilled bummed up?

In my very limited experience the Lott and the .470 are about the same recoil wise. I know there are many more factors involved, but just surprised to see you get pounded by that double.

Royal I am sure the shoulder is still a problem,4 rounds from the bench with the 375 and it feels like a truck hit me side on. Also think you can't keep shooting 308's and step up to the Big boys without expecting to be "surprised" a bit

Will take the 9,3x62 this week and get use to the little extra kick and then on to the 375H&H for a session or two before I take the double again. Like everything else if you don't shoot the Big guns often your body and mind don't tend to play ball

My legs were sore the next day from a three mile walk about a week ago!!!!

a 458 Lott should have a fair bit more recoil then the 470 NE! its likely a matter of fit and an injured shoulder. the 458 Lott probably fit you better then this 470 NE does.

my 450 NE beats me up pretty good compared to ActionBob's CZ 550 in 505 Gibbs. the CZ's stock just fits me better so despite the Gibbs having more recoil its still easier to shoot.

Matt I would think the 470 would have a bit less bang than the Lott,double has a bit more weight to it too. The Krieghoff fits fine,comes up nice and clean,not a fine shotgun nice and clean but better than my Lott did. I have small hands for a man,so it's a stretch to the front trigger,but she sits fine in the shoulder.I think it's just that it may recoil a bit diffrent than the bolt gun and I need to figure out what is the best way to get to grips with the recoil. With the Lott I used a opposite twist grip and simply soaked up the punishment it dished out. Kind of like the rifle was welded to my frame. May have to find a way to ride the recoil with the 470, don't know how yet but I guess that's half the fun of shooting a double. Any tips would be welcomed as this is my first venture into doubles.

HHS, you have just been lulled into a false sense of security with that supressed .308 of yours..... Jumping from 22lr recoil levels to a 470 is a pretty big step
Leave the bigger bores until your shoulder has healed up ( I know its hard since they are so much fun to shoot!!)

And once you are sorted we can have a weekend of a big bore shoot-out starting from the 9.3 and working our way up to the 470 and my ruger1 in 458Lott
I'm pretty sure we can get you used to the big bores and/or mess your shoulder up again

Worst case we slap a piece of gaffatape on your right eye and I'll introduce you to the right way of shooting (like a lefty!)

Ohh, and I especially think that a box or two through my 9.3x74r barrel set for the double would get you back on track and get used to the double
