Best Leopard destinations?

Mozambique with TMS, Simon is like the cat whisperer.

You can not go wrong with the Bubye. The BVC has lots of cats......and lots of them are really big. It's a spotlight opportunity but that only adds to the success, but does not stop you from shooting one during the day if you have the chance.

Mr Spots...
Leopards are allusive thus comparing area’s isn’t always that easy but some areas are more prone to produce better trophy’s (Like any game). Leopards tend to be very territorial but territories size can differ due to availability of land and shelter, concentration of game (this will also affect type of bait used and have an direct impact on the size of the animal) and of course females….;)

A lot of big cats are taken outside RSA (Personally I believe it’s because the human/animal interaction is much smaller), Mozambique also produces very nice cats. We often have a cat coming through camp. Baits in our area “usually” gets active in late midday thus it helps allot. The main thing is pre baiting and keeping it on the bait till the client arrives. It’s more than just hanging up meat!!!!:A Camping:

That’s a very nice cat, u must enjoy your hunt and best of luck, can’t wait to see photos and read the report.

Daylight cats are possible in every country it's the bold cats that get hunted. I have successfully harvested daylight cats in every country I have ever guided leopard in, this includes, South Africa, Namibia (day light only legal) mozambique (north bank and Niassa) Zimbabwe (Matetsi (daylight only) and ranch), as well as Tanzania, delta bots (which was daylight only also)
It all depends on how lucky you are, and the cat.

In my personal opinion South Africa very limited tag availability (the most conservative of all of southern Africa) has some serious quality leopard but they are far more difficult to hunt than most other African countries, I will place ranch cats in Zim and ranch cats in Namibia in the same league (as far as difficulty goes.)

Zambia should deliver some beasts over the next couple of seasons a prime location for sure.

My best always

the price on wild leopard in Namibia is unbeatable.
But success rate is not so high.
These cats don't like bait's,like in other countrys.
I dont know why ?
It is so.

The beauty of a leopard is awesome .
I feel sad, when I saw them dead and so I go on buffalo again.Good hunt, good trophy ,good meat.
But I also know, in Namibia, they have not less of them, and the compensation in trophy fees for the farmers, is much better than their
poison -campaigns against these wounderful animals.
Use it,or loose it.

I can't agree. When it comes to hunting Leopard, location is everything. Chances are not "the same as anywhere in Africa". That said, good luck and enjoy every minute of your hunt.
Agreed. What I should and meant to say was I believe I'm in a good area for leopard in Namibia. Hopefully the hunting gods will be kind to me.

Well that kind of deflates my enthusiasm. I guess I have to hope for the best.

Leopards, they have enough, but it shines, that they have all doctorate.
I believe, the persecution over generations by the farmers made them clever.

Foxi agree with pricing but stating that these cats don't like bait is quite broad, and not true, which other countries are you regering too? All leopard are wild.

I believe success rate in Namibia has to do with the daylight law and the fact that allot of those cats are ranch cats....

It takes allot more work and figuring out to hunt a Tom moving on and through ranches than a Tom on wilderness areas, for this very reason I believe Namibia and SA to "breed" some of the best leopard PH's in the industry.

Prey availability on ranches are way more..... Hence the slightly less opportunistic food guarding nature, when compared to leopard occurring on "wilderness" areas IMHO not only persecution, remember these cats are highly adaptable and successfully survive and live in reasonably populated areas, which should be regarded as another reason.

You do state correctly the "value" of leopard is key to its survival....

As a final I believe Leopard should be priced similarly to wild lion.... Just my $100 worth... ;) :)
@johhnyblues have a great time what will happen will happen, on leopard and wild lion there are no guarantees but work often (not always equals reward) be excited and positive!

Jacco,
it was just the meaning of the farmers(all of them are PH's ,more or less good) I met in Namibia ,when we talked about these cats.
But its not unthinkable, when you see in the wilderness area in Zambia or in Tansania, the hunting season may be 6-8 month and than :
silence.
On the ranchground in Khomas Highland, I've hunted, the leopard was trapped and poisioned the whole year, not so long ago.

What's the meaning of "regering"-I dont find it in my dictionary.
Greetings from Munic

Referring... ;) I have found in khommas, and the Waterberg and Zim, if a cat refuses to hit bait change the baiting method.

I have actually tied up a zebra leg to a heavy yet drag able log, cat walks by the bait drags it to where he is comfortable and feeds...
We track around mid morning find the spot build a blind and harvest the cat....

Smart cats need inventive ph's.
