From what I see advertised, it seems the price for a sable is going down. Looks like you can get one in the 6k range instead of 10-12k. Is this from all of the breeding going on in SA?

Once they get into the 3-4k range, I may consider hunting one.

They have been coming down over the last few years. Your top end like 42" or bigger are still more. I think you see guys willing to sell at a discount on the smaller ones in that 36 to 39 range to turn money over. I don't think you will ever see that 3 or 4 thousand dollar range ones as guys will get out of the breeding market before it gets that low. I think you will see both sable and buff stay or come down to sell off extra animals. I hope to maybe do a sable next year after the kids gets his roan but may do buff instead.

All depends where you are hunting them and that elusive horn length in the ads.
If you are referring to RSA, then the various breeding operations will be offering "over stocked" items to hunt that they do not want in the program.
That may be giving you an impression of price fluctuations.

Rowland or Cull both fit in the Sable category.

James that may have been a great price if you hunted something else while you were there. What size did you get?

That was a great day rate for a sable hunt in zim. Must guys want 600 a day or more for sable. You also got a great sable by the look of him. Great job and hope we can see some more pictures of your other stuff.

I do believe the org. post was talking about sable in SA and that is what I was commenting on.

@TEX84 , the prices can also change and go right up. So unpredictable.

Part of the price depends on the size of the property, free range vs fence, which province it's hunted in, which country its hunted in, sable availability, age, horn length. They are a prize trophy for sure.

You will notice that from time to time some specials will be advertized for all game animals including Sable.

As others have indicated, size does make a difference in price. So try to stay away from the pay per inch offering as an inch could mean the difference in the cost of your trip.

The Sable offerings that come to mind are the ones where you have a chance at somewhere between 37 inches to 42 inches for the same price. And over 42 inches you will almost see a doubling in price.

As with all offerings, the supply and demand drive the price in sable trophy fees.

It will be interesting to see if the decline in international hunters continues in South Africa. This also will reflect in the prices of safari packages.

Brickburn, how dare you post such a gigantic sable, that sable is going to haunt me...lol!

A truly free range Sable in Zambia is very expensive indeed and the prices are going up. South Africa maybe out breeding it's market.

I have no size limitations or requirements, our largest bull last season was 44" and 45" average on bulls of 41"
Trophy fee: of $8500 excl. daily rate.

Prices vary according to areas, size of land, size of bulls, and hunting experience.

Regular Zim pricing roughly $700 a day (on a Sable and pg combo) add trophy fee of $4000 min 7 days.

My best always

Were these stock originally imported from Zambia?

Negative our herd ranges on 33 000 acres, they were introduced in 1988

ours came from Kruger (Selati) 26 years ago with the Elephant herds......sable and Roan are indigenous go SA, the last free roaming Roan was shot in the Waterberg in 1988 as a point of interest.

My best

What can one expect to pay in SA for a trophy bull 40+ inches? What is a sable hunt like and is this hunt challenging? Peaked my interest when I saw this thread posted. In the planning stage for my 2016 return to SA.
