Big Bore Addiction Group

I will openly admit that although my mental calculations were on, I pulled that shot out of my A$$!!!! I just did not want to admit that in front of my PH and the landowner!

Of course not! That would be bad form. ;) (being honest, that is)
You handled it perfectly (ie, do NOT take another shot!).

Oh, and I have a sweet No 1 in 375 for you.

You lined up the sights, adjusted for range, and squeezed the trigger. The bullet flew, the shot was true, and the gong rang. Sounds like you did everything right to me! ;)

the general rules when shooting big bores are:

1. don't shoot them off a bench
2. don't shoot them off a bench
3. let Matt try your rifle
4. don't shoot them off a bench

follow these and shooting big bores can be lots of fun!

wish I had dug up this thread before I shot my 416 Rigby off the bench. Me thinks the rest will be off tripods or standing. My buddy has slow motion video of several shots and my right side looks like jello.

Very new to this forum but glad to see "The disease" is recognised here !! (y)

I started like most with a .22 many many moons ago , moved up to 243Win, followed by 270Win , 308Win & 303Br those again followed by 338Win , hunted with the 338 for quite a while and then it indeed did happen the Brno 375H&H! Still one of my favourites but it being a disease the 375H&h was followed by 458 Lott which I also love , whatever you hit stays hit! Ok so logically I would now have to start foaming at the mouth about some 50 Cal (500 Jeff, 500NE , 505 Gibbs etc) ......and I do ......in private :Shamefullyembarrased:......BUT not having a 416 just felt wrong so the newest addition is a 416Ruger (Alaskan) and it is just as awesome ........any cure offered would be appreciated........doubt I will use it though , big bores are way too much fun:sneaky:;)

Thank you and yep , that is a sure thing  - just need to save up some as I think a 500Jeff Custom built would be the right medicine .......but then there is the .505 gibs......Ok I am stopping now :ROFLMAO:

With regard to big bores, the following has been my experience (rifles in the rack):

375 H&H (dream caliber, therefore two different rifles)
378 Weatherby (easily the most viscous recoil of the bunch...a long reach, but hell to pay to get there)
458 Win Mag
460 Weatherby

As you can see, there's a couple of prominent gaps in the lineup...416 and 505! I'm working on rectifying each.

welcome Jacques!

the only known cure for this disease is to find a bore diameter that kicks too hard for you. the problem is, as you work your way up you become more and more resistant to recoil! personally the only guns ive found that kick too hard were rifles that didn't fit me properly. i remember when i thought the 416 RM had a lot of recoil... now in shooting a 505 Gibbs on a regular basis and im waiting on the arrival of a rifle chambered in 585 HE.

if you currently own a 458 Lott then a 500 is the next step since there isn't much of a difference between the 450 and 470. as said, i recommend CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery or 505 Gibbs that has been sent off to AHR to get worked over. CZ rifles in their stock configuration aren't smooth enough or reliable enough for my taste.

What do you guys think of the Kimber Caprivi? Found a smoking deal on a NIB Lott and I could feel my Spidey Scences tingling! It fit and pointed very well for me, it's pleasing to the eye, it is a Lott. Only thing I didn't like was the solid black folding leafs, there is a grove in them that could be filled with white or gold. Any cone ts on these rifles?
Cheers,
Cody

ive heard decent things about the Caprivi but ive never personally used one.

You need to buy it and report back to us so that we can give the next guy who asks a more informed opinion.

Hey Cody I just bought one! In fact got the call yesterday that it is in at my FFL... I bought a used one. So may get it picked up this weekend and may just wait for another to show up first 'cause they will discount the FFL fee if I do two or three fers.

BTW, I did end up with a very nice like new Ruger Express 300 win mag... thanks again for helping to curb the rip off I was potentially facing on the other one! Just for good measure, I was able to find a 270 for a good price and a 30-06 for a not good price! LOL... The 30-06 is the one I'm waiting on yet, brand new with hang tags on it yet. Serial number 760-00200 paid too much but it should be a special one.

Went a bit nuts on a few others and I think I'm a couple years ahead on my "gun a month" subscription;)

@ActionBob what caliber is your Caprivi?
Why 458 Lott of course! I plan to be up 40 miles from Fargo tomorrow but won't have time to pick it up first much less clean it and get it ready to shoot or I'd invite you to come try it out! Not sure when I'll be back up but definitely this summer....

Bob,
You've earned it my friend! And there is nothing wrong with excessive compulsive behavior when it comes to guns!
Glad you filled your RSM list,
Cody

I love your zebra avatar! Is that yours? If so, would you mind sharing who did your taxidermy work?
