What caliber to buy next?

I've seen it around for about $14/box of 50.
Last gun show I went to they wanted $40/box of 50. I saw it for $25/box (50) back in January......kinda kicking myself for not buying some then, but if things don't shake out soon (on .22 magnum), I'm just going to sell off the rifle.
Haven't seen it on a store shelf in forever.................and forget about finding any on line.

PM me if
That's pretty much a problem in the whole of the U.S!! Haven't found .22 magnum cartridges in over 3 YEARS!!!! I see them at the gun shows, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay those prices to the damn price gougers!
you need me to pick some up for You, it is not to hard to find down here.

Last week my OCD kicked in and I added a Ruger #1 in 450/400 NE, a Cooper Model 21 in 223 and a NIB 1999 Remington Peerless 30" BBLs to my accumulation, I might be able to cut back to four a month, prolly never four total.

If your looking for a light caliber rifle I'd go with the 17hmr crowd. It's a great gun and has much more capabilities than the 22lr or mag. A 223 is a good choice also as it is very versatile you can kill everything from springbuck down with it and the bullet options are tremendous.

And to think I felt guilty for having joined the gun-a-month club!

That would be a great club! Way better than Wine and Cheese of the month!

My advice is either a 22lr or a 223.
The 22lr is great for plinking, cheap shooting practice and hunting birds and small mammals.
The 223 is great for hunting small PGs and smaller animals.

Bullthrower I do like the sound of that Ruger #1 in 450/400. Can you share a picture of that baby?

a 22-250 or a 243 for feral hunting blowing foxs and kangaroos up with an 06 ,loaded with vmax is fun , but expensive
try a 250 with varmint grenades , or the 243 loaded fast and light , its not as deafening

Thinking about a M70 .243 myself for grand kids in a few more years. I guess I could go ahead and buy it now and make sure its broke in for them!

Africadee,
I am just thankful I don't have to make that decision! Only four rifles? Tough decision to make, but I would slide a .22 cal-6.5 cal into my battery to round it out.

You have more than 4 rifles just hiding in your hallway closet!

You know, the overflow that does not fit in the safes.

Yeah Tim,
Three in the truck and one in my pocket, I'm at my dam quota already!

you obviously live in RSA :

firstly get dedicated hunters , then you can have more than 4 rifles , secondly at the moment you don't have a long shooter , get a.270 win for Springbok hunting .

Interesting suggestions from all, I think I have a fairly decent Springbok shooter in the '06. 125 Grain Ballistic Tips in front of 58 grain Somchem S355 gives me a decent and flattish shooting round at 3150+ f/s. Closer than 250 meters though, lost of damage. I am however thinking of something in the 6mm range? Suggestions?

The good old 30-06 does have to be one of the most flexible calibers ever! By having that, you have opened up a lot of possibilities.

Well it is for the children after all.....

Client brought a 6mm BR NORMA on Safaris this year,I was extremely impressed with the accuracy, low recoil and it was deadly on game up to Black Wildebeest size. Would not mind to add one to my collection. Barrel life twice as long as a 243 is a bonus.

You'll LOVE that #1 in .450/.400. Took mine out again the other day and shot off of sticks only. Such a sweet combo!

If you are looking for a 6mm I would say that the best match would be a 25-06. The 25-06 is as flat a shooting cartridge as you can get.
The 25-06 in the U.S. Can be used on middle game animals pronghorn to mule deer. And would be good on coyotes down to prairie dogs if you didn't have something in the 204 to 223.
