Big Bore Addiction Group

Matt & Gizmo, I want thinking of PG when I said that. I want black and nasty critters.

Not going to be able to attend this year (again) due to the necessity of providing certain luxuries like food, clothing and shelter. Should be quite a fix for anyone addicted to big bore shooting!

will be going after assorted PG in May. what i shoot will depend on what i see and what i like. ill be going to SA again in September to hunt cape buffalo (hopefully with a 505 or 585).

for a rifle, ill be using a Win M70 in 416 RM with my custom PG load. i use a 300gr Barnes TSX over 81.5gr of H4895 which yields about 2700 fps and 1 MOA accuracy.

Awesome. I hope you have a great trip and I'll be right behind you.

That is a beautiful rifle. I would have a hard time owning it for two reasons. 1) I'd be scared to hunt with it for fear of something happening to it. 2) That price would be a helluva fun safari in Africa. Now if money was no option hell I'd buy 2 of them however I don't see me winning the lottery so..... I'll just have to keep dreaming. I hope one day to own something like that. lol, I thought I was big stuff when I bought my CZ.

Now THAT is a gorgeous piece of hardware! :A Worshipl::W A Rifle:
BUT
sierraone, I am not sure if "thank you" or the old middle finger salute is the appropriate response! :D
J/K Thank You!

Sierraone - I'm going to talk to my banker about that rifle in the morning. And he's going to laugh, and laugh, and laugh, and laugh....might even still be chuckling by the time he goes home.

Meanwhile, I'm back to hoping for the right six numbers on a Saturday night!

I dunno, $35,000 could buy a REALLY nice double rifle from Heym. were talking a fully engraved pinless sidelock 88b "Safari" with extras!

wish I had $35k to burn...

I guarantee you if I had an extra 35k laying around there it would involve a dead leopard.

I believe I would buy a Merkel or a Searcy and go hunt buff, there would still be enough left over for a case or two of castle to celebrate

There is a dealer over in Victoria, TX that seems to have really good pricing. What's your take on the Merkel Matt? I've only had experience with their shotguns and I really liked that gun. One thing I don't like are the game scenes on their side plates. Looks like I tried my hand a engraving

I have I a Merkel they a good basic rifle, well regulated and accurate. Mine shoots at 100 yards one out of each barrel, 1 1/2 inches apart 1 inch low. The action was really stiff when I got it so I had Ralph Martini go over it, I'm now very happy with it

@Bullthrower338 they are a good solid working double.

just got done making the last of the cartridges for my PG hunt in May and I also made 20 cartridges to take out and practice with tomorrow (you can never practice too much).

however in doing so I managed to burn threw another box of bullets and yet another pound of powder! for all of you that don't shoot big bore guns, let me tell you these cartridges are not for the cheap or stingy! at 81.5gr per shot my PG load for the 416 RM eats threw a pound of powder in 85 shots which for me is about 4 range trips or 2 months. now as a hand loader I pay pretty reasonable prices for my ammunition by sacrificing some of my time. if you shoot large bore guns often and don't hand load... "a fool and his money".

now once I start shooting the 585 HE... 140gr of powder per shot... may the gods of wealth have mercy on this pitiful soul. :D
