Still need to checker, and the express sight is still in the white till I make sure it is regulated, then will blue. It started life as a Parker Hale 30-06, with plain stock etc. Functional but missing something, bigger caliber and nice wood:) Have a 1-4 Vortex viper for glass.

nice wood there and the calibre :A Thumbs Up:

quick on the draw there mike...

nice conversion AZDAVE, looks good, are you going to do the checkering yourself?

Beautiful rifle. Thanks for showing it to us.

Beautiful piece of walnut, excellent grain thru the grip and stock, layout is superb for the caliber. Nice work. What did you use for the finish? I would hate to make this a "usin'" rifle, but that is what they are made for. Enjoy......I would.

Very nice looking rifle. Keep us posted with a range report. Lovely stock, that's for sure. For my own curiosity, would like to know how the scope handles the caliber. I have only read good things about vortex scopes.

What grade walnut did you go with?
I am deliberating between 2 and 4, the latter being twice the price as the first:(
My choice of fore end is image.jpg
And I am looking at this for the stock shape image.jpg
Same caliber on an old 1928 German built rifle. I only hope my wood comes out as beautiful as yours.

I will do the checkering, I put about 30 coats of true oil on the stock, sanding back every 2 coats, when I got the pours filled; I put three more coats on and let harden for a month then rubbed the finish out with rotten-stone and pure linseed oil. The barrel is 23in and a bit heavier than a normal sporter but I like a bit of heft to my rifles. The stock is about a 3 1/2 grade carlo walnut not quite exhibition grade but close. I like pretty rifles but all get taken to the woods, I would use a gold plated axe to cut wood:ROFLMAO: Glass bedded the action, barrel is free floated to a width of paper. The fore tip and grip are rosewood. Barrel is a mcgowen match. Should be a shooter. I have really come to like the 9.3x62 and 74R seems like my 338, 375HH and 375 Ruger just don't get shot as often as the 9.3. Would love to take this on safari this year but two double rifles got the nod. Maybe a big black bear of Griz in the next couple years:rolleyes: Fr8liner I hope yours comes aout as good or better than mine. Look forward to seeing the pics.

Rotten Stone,,Huh, had to research that one..I usually final finish my stocks with a Mothers Light Compound then polish so now I need to get some Rotten Stone and try it out

It is a very nice looking rifle sir.

Beautiful rifle Dave.

Great job.

love that rile - 9.3 x62 is my favorite caliber as well..

AZ Dave,

I have been thinking of having a rifle in this caliber built on a donor Winchester Pre-64 Action that was originally 30-06 Spg (if I can get the owner to part with it for a decent price........). Rifle was manufactured in the 1950's I think. The wood is not in great shape and the barrel is in average shape, so this would be a perfect donor for this project. I'd have to have it done by a gunsmith, but I would love to have this happen.......some day.

Anyway, my question is that any bolt face in the 30-06 parent case class (i.e., 270 Win, 280 Rem, 30-06, 35 Whelen, etc) should work correct? I think if my memory serves me correct the case head diameter of the 9.3 x 62 Mauser is 0.468, and the 30-06 case head diameter is 0.473, so it's only off by a few thou' (0.005). Am I right in my thinking?

If I can't get this fellow to part with the rifle, I may look to acquire one in another 30-06 class caliber. You can find them on GunBroker for <$1500.00 and sometimes much less than that if the rifle isn't original. Even a FN made Winchester 70 would be good if I could find one for a decent price. The only thing I'd keep anyway is the action and bolt. I'd want the action blue-printed, bolt face trued, lugs lapped in, raceways trued and polished, new barrel (Kreiger, Lilja, Bartlett, etc), Timney trigger, custom bottom metal, blued, and all dressed in a nice piece of English walnut.

Anyway, I'd love to have a rifle in this caliber to take to Africa one day. It'd be the perfect compliment to my Rem 700 in 30-06 that I'm having the same treatment done on currently.

And by the way....gorgeous rifle. Great job!

Here's a couple of pics of mine - old work horse.... It's going to go with me to SA (Eastern Cape) next year, when I take my sons to PE to show them where they were born. Hopefully it can chalk up a Kudu or two while over there.

And one more
