Who is going where this year?

I will post some photos. ;)

Stan,

Looking forward to the photos from your 2015 safaris.

If you could post a couple of photos of last years big bull we would all appreciate it. He is truly a magnificent animal that deserves recognition.....apologizes if you have posted and I have missed it.

All the best.

Sadly I don't have anything too exciting planned. My wife and I are getting ready to move to a new state (Nebraska) so my planning is on hold until we get settled but I am planning on doing a Pronghorn Antelope hunt this fall. In the spring I'd love to go out to Wyoming for a black bear hunt and in fall of '16 I'd like to go for Elk in New Mexico.

I'm flying Delta to Joberg then SAA to Zim. I've been weighing ammo for the .404 Jeffery and .375 H&H rifles I'm taking. Is anyone likely to actually weigh the ammo during the journey? 3 boxes of each puts me 1 lb over the 5 kg limit. Thanks.

the only times ive had ammo weighed were leaving Townsville and leaving cape town , last year . both times they were over , due to being in a steel container and they also had knives and steels and a bunch of rechargeable batteries in the box . once l said that the ammo itself wasn't over , they settled down and l offered to pull the ammo out so it could be weighed by itself , their supervisors said that wouldn't be nessessary.
by the sound of it your ammo itself will be overweight . not sure how you would talk your way around that .
at least you will be only over on the way to Africa.
don't know about delta , but saa wont let you pack your ammo in stored luggage.

No Africa for me in '15 :cry:so thinking about maybe doing a bison hunt here instead. Would love to hear any recommendations from members on their bison hunts.
Have you booked a bison hunt yet?

Havent dropped the hammer on one yet. Still kicking it around.

You have to disclose that your ammo meets the requirements. Max 5Kg.
All depends on who's at the counter when you check in.

Nothing for me this year,,but I'm hard at work trying to figure a way to embezzel a 1/2 Mil from my company and make a one way trip to Africa,,retirement is just a dirty deed away:sneaky:

I can say that in Zim they did closely check the ammo last summer and made sure it matched to the guns, but they did not weigh it. I personally wouldn't go over the limit and would take a few round out if I had to. That being said, I would also weigh the ammunition itself, no cardboard boxes, no ammo container, and be comfortable going right up to the weight limit with the cartridges ONLY. Now you might get someone who weighs the entire box, but I would maje that argument (might not win it!).

I don't know what is on your list, but 120 rounds is a lot, so I think you'll be more than fine, regardless. There is also likely to be some .375 H&H ammo available in camp at Nuanetsi. The .404 is of course less likely.

@Gsxrmike I had a similar experience to Royal. I would NOT take more than the 5 KG or 11 pounds, and would try to make that with containers. Of two trips we were checked once and that b---- also counted the case I had it in! So gross weight with the case, not net of the ammo, one was over and one was under (my wife was with so had two).

Can you leave a half box home and make weight? When you get to Zimbabwe they will want to know exactly how many rounds you have

On the way home, if you are bringing ammo back, be sure to count and write down the number of each caliber your bringing as they will ask in Zim.

If you fly Air France, well they want something different every time and every person so be ready for anything. From our experience, the concept of Standardized Operating Procedures has not made it to France!

Sorry fellas im landlocked until 2016, then ill be traveling back to Namibia. Headed north this time. Ill be near Etosha. This year limits me to a side trip to Yellowstone to reconnect with an old friend, til then good hunting and safe travels to all the other hunters

I'm hunting that area in September, who you hunting with?

June 1st. I'll be in New Zealand, Timaru to be exact, hunting with New Zealand Safaris for Red stag and Tahr with my son. My wife, my oldest daughter and her husband are going along just to see what New Zealand is all about. Although just the other day my daughter asked me what the chances are of her being able to shoot something too. I knew she couldn't go along just as an observer, never has and probably never will.
I ve hunted NZ twice. I absolutely love it there!

really looks like new zealand and red stag have come on strong for people.I have been thinking about it but just cant get past africa at this time.I would like to get a red stag and tahr down the line at sometime.
When your ready check out Alpine hunting NZ. Shane Quinn. Top notch in every way!

Me also. Who are you hunting with?
Hunting with Marius Burger. Mopani Safaris. Two camps one he manages two hours from Windhoek, and one about six hours north. The northern camp is his own property. Probably spend a couple days in southern camp then head north, for that faded pair of blue jeans. How about yourself?
