Big Bore Addiction Group

Bob,
She is not a lady if she doesn't respect the 416

Yeah, we can't shoot anything bigger than a .22 in our indoor range. I'm in Alaska so my rifles don't get much bore envy when I go to the range. There's always someone there with something bigger.

Happy to say that I just found and purchased a Ruger #1 458 Lott new and in the box today. Ruger hasn't built this rifle in at least seven years and I'm excited to find it. It will take a couple of weeks to process my check and ship it here to my favorite FFL. I'm looking forward to getting that in my hands.
I know " my name is Charlie and I'm addicted to big guns"

It's all my fathers fault. He took me to see the 16" guns of the USS North Carolina when I was just nine years old. Talk about starting out early.

Care to try out my 577 or 600? ;) Or I could introduce you to a couple of friends that have 4 bore rifles.. (That's a hole in a pipe just over 1 inch.. either an 1800 grain round ball OR a 2400 grain slug)

Yep nothing says are you awake quite like 400gr of 2FG and a 1800 gr round ball, AkMike the next time I up north I will take you up on your offer, Never shot a 577 or a 600 and my 8bore is kinda wimpy compared to a 4 Bore.

Anything short of a 155 howitzer is wimpy compared to a 4 bore. The 8 isn't too bad IMO. But the 4 is a whole different beast.

Look on Youtube for Cal Pappas shooting his 4 bore DR. This is a 4 bore in my hand.

I think that someone here will recognize the gents in the back round with the green shirts.. :D

Here's a 4 bore single shot at full recoil. This was during a hunt in the Land of Oz.

Stupid question I'm sure. What is a 4 bore used for?

That's just a squirrel gun. ;)

Actually it'll handle stuff a bit bigger than squirrel if you place your shots.. :D

@matt85 this might be the brass you need to load that VD special projectile!

crap now im gonna need a 4 bore... i hate you guys! ;)

i cant imagine your getting much velocity with those 2400gr pills! wonder how fast you can push them before the gun pushes you over...

better question is "what cant you use a 4 bore for?".

IIRC I've invited you to wander up for one of our 'spring shoots' before. We'll have another one this spring too.

Here's Cal with his 4 bore DR. Keep in mind that he's around 6'4" and in very good shape.

Would love to launch a few rounds down range with either of those two calibers! Definitely got bore envy now!

If you can make it up for the double rifle shoot at Cal's place (about 85 miles north of Anchorage, more or less), you can also try my Heym 88B in .458 Winchester.

This is my Linebaugh Custom conversion in .475 Linebaugh

I would love to! I imagine you and I would have plenty to talk about as well.

VD, We'll have the DRSS Shoot at Birchwood. Cal's place is the monthly shoot.

sadly I wont have a double rifle to shoot... hopefully my little 416 will be accepted. :(

I need to get Mr. Searcy to hurry up and fix my double so I can sell it and put some more money together for a nice Heym. after speaking with them at the SCI show ive pretty much decided one of their rifles is in my future! chambering is still undecided but will probably be in either 450 NE or 470 NE... the 500 NE calls to me as well.

Do you know when the spring shoot it at Birchwood Range? (I have a wedding to attend this spring).
Didn't know Cal has a DR shoot monthly and I sometimes share a table with him at gun shows.
(Perhaps he's trying to tell me something).
Hope to finally meet you at the Palmer show March 7th & 8th.
My table will be almost directly across from the kitchen / espresso stand.
Cal can point me out for you.
Or, PM me in advance of the show for my cell phone number.
