For anyone interested there is a RSM .416 Rigby for sale now at Cabela's in Sidney, Nebraska for $1360!
Nope, sorry 'bout that I didn't do a very good job of thinking and typing.
I meant if my girlfriend knew I said I would trade her in for less than a Rigby I may end up with a metal object stickin' outa my skull. She's a little touchy that way
That does seem like a really good price for that Searcy. I would have been mighty tempted too!
I think I am going to be in the same boat as you with the recoil. It will be interesting to see how tolerable it is. My .375 RSM is a joy to shoot, recoil is a total non-event even with stout loads. My .338 Win Mag and .300 WSM are both far more punishing to shoot, so maybe the Rigby won't be too bad. Planning to start pretty mild on the loads.
Man, am I ever with you Bullthrower! They really are what a rifle should be.
Mark Lang from Ruger is a friend and I have properly chastised him, although the RSM's were discontinued before his arrival. However, he did tell me they were tired of stuffing hundred dollar bills down the spout of every one they shipped. Sad, but true I guess. Hard to justify keeping a product in the line up that costs more to produce than you can sell it for Especially when you are a publicly traded company...
The same issue exists with their Red Label shotguns, only to a much lesser degree. Oh, and remember the the Ruger Gold Label? 2 years of production and then kaput. Bummer...
Thanks for the shout out Bob I enjoy talking guns with you.
OK, since you asked If this gets me in trouble with a certain little lady, you are going to have to take the heat
Starting on the easier end of the spectrum, everyone ought to have a Red Label in their collection. Or better yet, a few of them. I have a very early production gun and would really like to add one of the stainless guns to the collection. They were made in 12 ga, 20 ga and 28 ga, as well as a stainless steel synthetic waterfowl version. Discontinued for a while and re-introduced last year. And now re-discontinued again I guess...
Next up, the Gold Label. IIRC these were only produced for 2 or 3 years. I REALLY want one of these, but they aint cheap. SXS double, I think they were only produced in 12 ga and were available with either a pistol grip stock or a straight english stock. If you can find one I think they're going for about $4K and up.
A Hawkeye .256 single shot pistol is a highly desirable addition to a collection. Tough to find and probably at least a couple grand and up. It was produced back in the 60's and very few made due to lack of commercial success. Still a unique design and I would love to have one of these as well.
Another one to add is the Model 44. Semi-auto carbine in .44 mag, not terribly expensive or difficult to find, but one in nice shape is a great addition to a collection. Damn fun to shoot pigs with too
So there's a start that will easily lighten your wallet by a five figure number
