I will be hunting Plains game in the Limpopo region for 10 days starting June 1st. (2 Hunters). Gemsbok, Kudu, warthog, blue wildebeest and impala will be the focus.

We plan on going to Cape Town for 5 days for the tourist thing but have days as well to hunt other places or find some adventure after the June 1st hunt.

So if anyone has any thoughts for 4-5 days or good deals let me know. I will already be in Johannesburg so makes it easier. Please PM or list and will reply quickly.

Thanks

If you are going to be around Cape Town there are plenty of Outfits down in the EC that will have hunting opportunities for you.

If you get a chance, book a few days in the EC, maybe take in Ado Elephant park for a day and then rent a car and drive down the garden route to Cape Town. only about an 8 hour drive if I remember correctly, but make a couple days of it to stop along the way... A lot.

I will second the self-driving the garden route (Port Elizabeth to Cape Town) if you can make that happen.

If not, at least rent a car and drive the loop from Cape Town down (I would recommend going down the east side of the peninsula in the morning and the west side in the evening) to the Cape Point/Cape of Good Hope. This is a full-day trip ... PS stop and see the Penguins on the way! You can hire a car or bus, but I really liked the freedom to set my own schedule ... and how often do you get to drive on the "wrong side" of the road. Do Table Mountain (1/2 day), Robben Island (1/2 day), and a tour of District 6 (1/2 day). There is also an arboretum on the East Slope of Table Mountain that we didn't get to see because of rain that we will catch on the next trip. There are a whole host of more adventure-styled activities including shark diving, rappelling (they have a different name for it) of Table Mountain, paragliding, and a number of zip line tours (we did two along the Garden Route, so I don't know which to recommend in Cape Town, but it was a tamer adventure than jumping off the side of Table Mountain :)!).

Hi wilsonsmw,
Welcome to the forum. I have sent you a PM regarding hunting the Eastern Cape.

All the best with your hunt in the Limpopo.

Take Care,

Thanks for the great input. So sounds like it will be easiest to head straight to Cape Town and then head out from there for 4 days of hunting.

I would really like to see other outfitters in this area so I can bring back the family and more friends for a longer adventure. KMG got it, I will be researching thanks

Scott excellent advise! I concur completely.

Remember to NOT feed the baboons and DO lock your car... We were told they have learned to open parked car doors and will rip up seats an shit everywhere! Get advice on all this stuff and local quirks (like parking) from your PH.

Also take some 2 and 5 rand coins to tip the parking attendants. Do NOT miss penguin beach. The back alley walk from parking to the penguins has some back yard curio peddlers but we found excellent deals outside the gates of the park at Cape of Good Hope where the vendors are lined up along the road.

Inside a cavern along the garden route.

The really striking thing to me about these pictures and the experiences we had there, is that they paled in comparison to those from the hunt in the EC!

Bob, great post and pics. We will be hitting all those highlights....

Great photos !

These are two of my to do's when I am in that area next month. Bungee jump from the Bloukrans Bridge and Shark Cage dive in Mossell Bay.

I will be doing the shark dive for sure but there are so many different vendors....

Anyone have any ideas, any better than other?

Give loodt at tootabi an email his info is on the site just click the tootabi logo. He will give you info on all that stuff and can even help with the hunting part also. He would even do a package with the extra stuff built in if you like. He has some great packages if you look under the deals on the site

We had am outfitter wanting to arrange everything for us including a driver to take us on the Garden Route to Cape Town.

First off it was as expensive or possible more than daily fees for the hunt and secondly we wanted to go at our pace and change our minds as we went. And to have our privacy. So we had his guide give us a tour of Port Elizabeth which was very nice and informative. But we also went with him to Ado and wished we had done that ourselves in a rental car... we then rented a car in PE, made the drive at our leisure and got to Cape Town jut fine... We had hotel reservations in Cape Town but on the way we went against the good advise of booking ahead and just winged it! We found a room each night no problem. Might be a stupid/risky way if doing it but we did not get this far in life by doing everything the recommended or cautious way! LOL

Returned the car at the airport in Cape Town... If you do this, also reserve and rent a GPS or take your own if you can update for RSA.

In Cape town we took the car to Table Mountain but walked to the port and Boardwalk as we stayed close enough. There are also busses you can get on and off to tour the city and we did that for a day.. Go to the castle and there are lots of other things also including those already mentioned. Oh and look up at table mountain first thing in the morning and if you can see the top, get there quickly that day as it is often fogged in!

If your not comfortable doing it yourself, there are lots of tour guides and I'm sure Loodt as well as others can help you out. Lori can arrange the rental car... If you have guns, get one big enough to hold the case! We spent the money and got a little SUV, it was only front wheel drive but had the clearance for the dirt roads we took and room for everything...... Another tip, when you get the urge to veer off on a back road (totally worth it!) be sure you fill the tank first! We got way out and down to a 1/4 tank and had to turn back before we could follow the road as far as we wanted. The GPS was very worth having... Btut the damned thing did lie to us on those back roads!

No mention of animals yet. The EC is Vaal Rhebok country and would under your circumstances be my top priority animal. Bushbuck would be right behind the Vaal.

Good morning sir,

We do provide tours down the Garden route should you not want to travel yourself, doing the "Tourist Thing" with a guide that knows the Garden Route Exceptionally well. Including Shark Cage Dives with our partner in Mosselbay, White Shark Africa http://www.whitesharkafrica.com/ is something we arrange in our sleep!

Thank you for sharing my information Billc, you're a star!

If you want me to give you a call to discuss different options, you are welcome to e-mail me and I shall act on it.

Looking forward in hearing from you sir.

All the best,

Loodt Buchner

That's true Phil but lets not leave out the little guys on the East Cape you'll find Klipspringer as well a Blue Duiker along the Coastal areas. Enjoy your trip sounds like your going to have a lot of fun.
