Hi guys this question might have been asked before. I have a client coming to join me in Moz, and a possible flight was to go through London.

Any particularly new issues on the subject is it still screwy?

My best always

I'll be routing through London in May. Arriving and departing on British Airways through Heathrow only. No other airlines, no other UK airports. Under these circumstances, it's supposed to be easy.

Mix up airlines or have a Gatwick/Heathrow transfer and it gets mucked up from my understanding.

Exactly.

Tell BA what your guns are and all the details beforehand and check them through till the end and you are supposed to be golden.

I'll be right behind you two months later Phil.

I heard somewhere (can't remember where) that BA needs advance notice of several days to travel with guns. I'll bet Lori at Travel Express has all the answers.

True statement Cliff.....good to see you my friend!

Cliffy, brickburn,Phil thank you so much I'll check on what we need to do.

My best to you and yours.

At least a week before BA wants ALL the firearms details.
Have at it Jaco.

I m going in March to hunt in England again.
So your client can choose-take Stansted Airport.
Heathrow is often called the " Gun Bermuda Triangle" of Europe.

Sounds like we should re route? ;)

there are no problems transiting through heathrow with ba all the way or codeshare airlines, as the security company collects the gun cases from the aircraft and stores them till they put them onto the departing aircraft. the security people have the gun cases at all times, so if a problem occurs they know which one of their staff had them in their custody during collection and transfer. the problems used to occur in the past when it was the baggage handlers who had control of the guncases .there is no paperwork/documentation required to transit. as with anywhere there will always be "technicals", and i know from previous posts on here foxi seems to think heathrow is an issue , but over the last 35 years i have never had a "technical" (touch wood!!). the only "technical" i have encountered was at amsterdam quite a few years ago when i was with a friend i had booked a hunt for in tanzania, and his cases were left on the ground next to the aircraft and we could see them as we taxied off......they turned up 2 days later. your client cant use stanstead as he would then have to transfer to heathrow and depending on where he is flying from i doubt there will be a flight into that airport. it is possible to transfer between airports ,but you would need to use a firearms courier company to meet you and transfer your firearms to your dept airport, or get a visitors permit , which all adds up to expense and a pain in the ass when you can fly in and out of heathrow.......... the time scale to inform ba you are travelling with firearms i have always been told is a min of 72 hours in advance, but thats the minimum. you need to inform them of cal, type ie bolt action sporting rifle, and make. if your ticket shows zimbabwe as your end destination you wont be allowed to take your firearms, as the british govnt has an arms embargo of any type of firearm to that country ( not sure if that is the same when you dept from usa, but if you start in the uk is the case, so needs checking from that side)

Thanks spike

no probs. if your client is flying ba into heathrow from the usa he will get in to heathrow morning through middayish depending on where he is flying from, and dept to joburg early evening 19.10hrs or 21.10hrs ,arriving either 07.30am or 09.05am as there are 2 flights with ba to joburg each evening.

Hi Mike,hi Jaco,

that sounds very hopeful, but European hunter would't singn that urgently.
Sure, every airport can be a problem.
For two years my guncase came a week later to Munic.
Last year, a few days later my luggage (I don't trust Jo-burg Airport).
Always at the end of my journey (luck).
But the pronunciation of Heathrow is here in minor.
Don't forget an insurance against damage and "missing"
Greeetings from cold and snowcovered Munic
