Trophy Warthog question

The areas with the highest densities. There are some areas with exceptional genetics but think taking a really big warthog comes down to some luck or having opportunity to look over a lot of boars. I’d start my search in northern South Africa. You’d need to discuss the different properties outfitters have access to, warthog numbers, recent droughts, and a few other variables. I don’t think it will be a simple answer for a location.

This is my biggest from South Africa from Limpopo.

Nice!!!!!!

I saw a monster in Free State in 2018 we were hunting Roan and you could see his tusks from 250+ yds away he was a dandy wish we had time to locate him. My personal opinion COVID helped the pigs grow in EC as we saw many very nice ones when I went back in 2022.

This one came from the Kalahari region of South Africa. I think it's really a numbers game, and having a population density high enough you can find a mature animal that hasn't broken off those beautiful tusks.

Shot an ancient boar last year in the northernmost tip of SA on the border of Botswana and Zim. Just made Rowland Ward with 13 inches on one side, 12.25 on the other as measured by the taxidermist. One even larger eluded us! Lady luck must smile on you! My PH even used a picture of him in brochures he gave out at this year's shows he attended! Good luck!

Droughts really knock back the big boars. It can take a couple years to recover.

High population density, enough time to grow old (hunting pressure) and softer sand under foot all come into play.
Warthog’s that live in areas with hard ground wear their tusks down quite quickly.
In many prime areas, few pigs get to live long enough to become truly spectacular specimens.

Have only hunted a couple of areas in Namibia and SA. Saw one dandy in Namibia, (Kalahari), but only one. Saw way more big mature hogs in the Limpopo, Thambinizi / Rankins Pass area. Saw one bruiser there, that equals or exceeds anything posted so far - looked ridiculous. Still kick myself for not switching gears and hunting him. He was spotted at quite a distance, and a few minutes after spotting a really nice mature bushbuck - we'd been working awful hard looking for that Bushbuck for 6 days.

Did anybody get 16 inch warthog and where?

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
