Good Gun Deals This Week

My research has been about $5-6k on this side and $1k-1500 for overseas. No VAT since exporting but a hefty tariff and importation taxes and fees.

13% US tariff is cheaper than the European 19% or 20% VAT, thought. Holts occasionally has good buys.

There should not be a VAT, but depending on the auction/seller, sometimes they assess the VAT (improperly), and you have to seek a refund. I grew weary and just wrote it off.

Kinda/Sort of ….
If the winner uses the exporter Holts provides or someone who’s UK based then the VAT is assessed and the winner needs to try and file for it back.
If the winner uses a US based company who initiated the export following the close of the auction, then the VAT typically gets removed from the invoice.

Unless they’ve changed some things; on select auctions, Holts sometimes specifies that VAT will be collected regardless.

It only one was for sale here without that god forsaken hogs back stock!
It’s not hard to replace the stock with an American stock. Shouldn’t keep you away from a good buy.

I just took delivery on a rifle I bought from Holts. It took 15 months to get to the U.S., and you are correct about the additional costs. That $500 rifle turned out to not be such a bargain. ;)
While a few AH members have gotten some true bargains on Holts even after all the up charges I would bet my farm most people end up like you not really getting much of a bargain after all costs factor in

I commerical import and export firearms ...the cost of just one or two is insane...But did you know it is possible to import without having the rifles import marked.

Nope VAT is not charged in any case with Holts..Just poor paperwork from the exporter or purchaser. Why am I so sure ? I purchase 100 guns a quarter from Holts.

can you please expand on how this can be done?

As you stated in your post above, you’re a commercial exporter. You’re initiating the export from outside the UK, not just functioning as an individual buyer. I’ve personally had holts tell me what I stated above and have purchased from them numerous times. I’ve got multiple invoices from Holts where they charged VAT assuming I was using their exporter.

You are however right that doing 1 or 2 guns at a time is very expensive. 15-20 is where I’ve found a pretty decent price break/savings.

Remington 798 in 458 Mag on GI. Controlled feed Zastava Action New In Box Seems Cheap to Me.

That link is for one of the pictures. Here is a link to the listing itself:

Agreed, not a bad price these days. Crazy to think that Cabelas used to have these on Clearance for sub-$500 in the late 2000's.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
