8x64 Brenneke....Who has one ?

Picked up a zg 47 in 8x64s. Had it bedded, threw on some Talley rings and a 6 power Schmidt and bender. 1" group at 100 yards.

The cartridge 8x64 Brenneke was a good cartridge, but she never was really successful because at that time the cartridge 8x57IS was the placeholder in this caliber class. Brenneke had hoped that the Army would be interested, but that was not the case. Thereafter, she had to compete with the cartridge 30-06 Springfield.

Hey
I have had these 2 ZG47s for a few years now and have carried both across BC looking for edible things. I must admit the 9.3x62 on the left is my favorite to reload for but the 8x64 is my favorite go to rifle.. The 8mm is still limited in bullet selection but its getting better every year..

What are you shooting out of your 8x64?

If your looking for more check out Ellwood Epps, prophet river, and intersurplus, the have pretty good selection of 8mm bullets.

Hey I remember that User name from back in 2000's on HuntingBC.. I was Huntersdad before taking a break from that site... Good to hear your still shooting..
For a few years I just loaded E-tips and Interlocks. Easy to find but didnt really do what I was looking for. I have settled on 200gn accubonds as the rifle seems to like them..we are lucky to have a great range in Fort McMurray but the shooting season is half that of the Sunshine Coast BC

A bit academic now, but FWIW a friend of mine built an 8x64 here in Oz. It still is quite a popular cartridge in Europe. He ordered a Walther Lothar 98 prefit barrel in 8x64 which solved the problem of trying to find a reamer. Loaded ammo and dies are available but need to be ordered.

It more or less has about the same performance as a 325 WSM and of course fits the 98 action perfectly. It has noticeably more clout than a 8x57 on our big deer.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
