Request for info on hunting Botswana

There is hunting available on private lands, just not any government land. It will mostly like stay that way forever. No more elephant, lion, leopard...dangerous game hunting. Maybe private land Cape buffalo hunts?

I know what's illegal and what isn't but according to this thread, the government of Botswana and the IUCN is going to look everything over in March 2015. That''s what I wanted more info on.

Ok, good luck, like I said, I don't ever see it opening again. I know better, common sense ended in Botswana a long time ago.

Well, never is a heck of a long time. The people making the rules now wont be there forever. I would be interested if anyone has any info on this as well. I don't plan to go back there but I would like to see hunting continue as it once was, though that may be a stretch. I was there in 1990 and I don't expect it will be like that again anytime soon.

Medical training teaches you to assess the situation. The situation was there was a abundance of Cape buffalo and elephant and they were crazy priced high dollar hunts, the hunts sold out every year and they were shut down.

My conclusion if $$$$$$$$$$ can't keep the hunting going nothing will.

Morning @tigris115 , I posted that info. And unfortunately that's about as much info that's available. The decision to ban hunting will come up for review in March 2015. Here in Bots alot of the Outfitters have all packed up and shipped out. The minister that lead the charge for the ban is now the Deputy President of the country so its highly unlikely they will do a 180.
Which is a shame because all those hunting concessions are still standing free without any photographic safaris companies wanting them!
So as we get more info, i'll post it on the forum.

My 61 years on this planet leads me to the conclusions I made above.:D I agree its unlikely, but its certainly possible that hunting could reopen. :cautious:

(y)I do agree miracles can happen

In chatting with some African friends. All the camps have been cleaned up and equipment and supplies removed, and it would take some time to rebuild the different camps.

There is hope that they may open up 2 to 4 government concessions. They did not think that all the hunting concessions would be opened. Time will tell. The outlying area are not happy and are making there voice heard.

There was speculation as to who would be given the concessions if they would be allowed to open. As with any issue there is always under the table or behind the door dealings.

The green/photo tourism is not producing the money that they thought it would. They are only keeping a few busy with photo tours. That is one reason the outlining tribes are wanting the hunting concessions to reopen. It provided local jobs and food for the villages.

I have been reading a few tour magazines, and in one African magazine (UK published) they were advertizing for the green people to book to dart 3 white rhinos for research and study purposes. And this was being endorsed by the green group.

I also heard the same story, one of my friends has a brother who lives in Botswana and owns a farm in the Tuli block. Now he told me that they are looking at opening some of the government concessions, but only Botswana residents will be able to apply for quota and resell to hunting clients. ?????
