WANTED: First hunt $25,000.00 budget

Joseph,

As I posted earlier, I hunted with Hunt The Sun run by Mike Birch... it was a 10 full days of hunting... I harvested 5 PG- (Kudu,Waterbuck,Gemsbok,Bontebok,Blue Wildebeest) .. All excellent mature trophies.

Price included 1x1 PH, Tracker, skinners, lodging , tips, 1 non hunter, all meals, laundry, transportation to from Airports, side trips for my wife and me, gratuities = $13,179.00
Ship & Dip of trophies = 917.00
Broker Fees (US Import) = 1,173.00 (Brkr Fee,Delvry Chrg, Imprt Svc Chg,Cites
========================== fee[BonteBok], Airline strge, Messnger fee)

$ 15,269.00

Not including Taxidermy work, airfare round trip, souvenir shopping.

One of the things that can get overlooked is the expense, post hunt. As you can see, there are all kinds of broker / import fees to bring back your trophies. Too bad US Fish And Game does not allow bringing the meat back too. Usually the Outfitter will cook any meat from your trophies while you are there, but it cannot be take back to the USA unless commercially processed and packaged.

Hope that helps..

for 25K I'd fly First Class for sure,,,sitting in Coach is a major pain in the Ass

Kansas 30 if your name indicates where you live we have a little in common as I'm in Overland Park. Your budget is more than reasonable. I will PM / Conversation you shortly.

Hi Joseph
I am also new to this site and I must say I am impressed. We are just finishing up with a safari. With that budget you can really go far. You will be able to get a good amount of animals and have the taxidermy etc. sorted. What kind of animals are you interested in?

No response from Kansas 30 yet ?? I agree with Foxi on this!

[25.000.- budget and no Idea for hunting.

That sounds like a troll is asking................
Sorry , my feelings.[/QUOTE]

If you have always dreamed of going on a hunting safari in Africa but thought it was out of your reach, look no further than Namibia - offering the biggest diversity to be found in Africa. FREE RANGE plains game and great value for money...

Kansas 30, you have a good budget, feel free to contact me for a quote including taxidermy.

Hello Joseph ,

Welcome to AH. Please contact me via private message so i can send you our quotation and answer any question that you may have.

Welcome Joseph
You have a very generous budget for a first time African experience - 8 hunting days, Kudu, Oryx, Mountain Zebra and Warthog, FREE RANGE. Contact us with more information and a custom designed safari.

Sorry to burst your bubble Foxi, but I'm not a troll. Granted I'm one ugly bastard, but a troll I am not...

Thank you all for your replies.. and I apologize for my delay in responding.... been sick, been parenting, and been working.. I went to the Vegas SCI convention this past year and the options were almost too overwhelming. I will be returning in 2015.

A few more details on the type of hunt I would be looking for:
-Ideally buffalo + kudu, impala, warthog, and waterbuck. (Others?)
-100% certain I do not want a high fence hunt regardless of size of area.
-Preferably not South Africa (although I have no real reason for saying this other than it seems like everyone goes there) they probably go there for a reason.
-a real HUNTING safari experience... Not necessarily a "shooting" safari..
-Taxidermy: nothing more than shoulder mount or European.
-Hunt would have to take place between October 15 and March 15

Thanks again to everyone

Also.... As long as it falls between Oct and March I am very very open to last minute, cancellation, or problem animal hunts

That is a very generous first hunt, plains game budget. With that you will cover all your expenses for maybe half a dozen trophy quality animals over a two week period.

With the nuts and bolts covered you can now decide who, where and what to take.
1) What are your top preferred animals ? (Do you want to hunt them in their natural environment and not introduced to a foreign biome/ranch) do a bit of research to find their natural range and if they occur there together.
Buffalo, Kudu, Impala, Warthog, and waterbuck
2) What level of luxury and pampering do you need back at camp. The sky is the limit on this $$$$.
For some a nightly Braai under a open sky and a few cold Lagers is more enjoyable than a 4 star lodge with 3 courses and wine.
I like both
3) Do you have a romantic notion of where you want to hunt:
Is it a foot hunt across the Kalahari ?
Tracking animals through the bushveldt/lowveldt ?
Long range hunting and Dassie busting in the Karoo ?
The wild riverine and excarpment country of NW Zimbabwe ? (The more remote the more expensive)
All of the above!! but I'm a realist

You can do Dangerous Game on a first hunt, but with that budget you may have to give up some other aspects of a first time hunt. Best to concentrate on Plains game, get a feel for how it is done, the country and people and then come back for DG with the knowledge you have acquired.

Have fun planning. All the best.

For those that mentioned the taxidermy costs, shipping, hotels during travel, taxes, etc, etc, this is really why I asked the question...
These are the costs that have kept me from booking a trip in years past. I'm just not comfortable in trying to establish an accurate estimate. I would like to think that I could spend 15K on the hunt and 10K would take care of everything else. Thoughts?
-I would use points for the the flight
I don't think I could do buff + pg with this budget but maybe I'm wrong

for 25K I'd fly First Class for sure,,,sitting in Coach is a major pain in the Ass
I flew business class! Same as first class? and just that would have been $20,000 round trip in 2012. Don't go there. He said the flight wasn't part if this.

We do authentic FREE RANGE hunting only, where the total hunting experience is our top priority and as REAL as it can get! For U$ 20 000 ALL INCLUSIVE (trophies - kudu, oryx, mountain zebra, red hartebeest, springbuck, warthog, steenbuck, daily rate 1x1, taxidermy/shoulder mounts, as well as shipping). This leaves you with enough spare cash for hotels, gratuities, and side trips.

Are you thinking Oct 2014 or 2015?

With your budget and desire to hunt buffalo I would look into Charlton McCallum Safaris, Ivory Trail Safaris, Martin Pieters in Zimbabwe.

If you will drop me a PM I'll steer you to a couple of great outfitters, that can easily fit into your budget.

I have been able to save an extra $25,000.00 that I would like to spend on my first African safari. The $25,000.00 needs to be able to cover ALL the expenses (hunt, fees, dip/pack, taxidermy, and shipment to US).
Air fair is not to be included in the $25,000.00

I was wondering what some of you folks thought would make a fantastic first safari on this budget.
-species? Country? Outfitter?

Thanks in advance

Joseph Kerr

Welcome Joseph to AH.

Will this be a solo safari package you are looking for?

Will your wife and children going along?

What kind of Taxidermy are you looking at? Shoulder - euro mount and or life size mounts. This plays into the cost figure.

A 10 to 14 day safari package that i just went on with Lake safaris will be close to the $25K limit you have set. That amount will include my airfare and taxidermy work. 5 euros - 1 shoulder and 3 pedestal mounts. Plus some flat skins work and a round rug for my metal Christmas tree.
