I recently returned from a Burkina buffalo and plains game hunt. Outfitter was Hunting Trips to Africa | Brewster, NY. Overall, a very good hunt and a true wilderness experience/adventure. Camp was very nice and having an in-ground pool was a huge benefit given the temperature ranged from 95 to 103 degrees during my hunt. Food was the best I ever had on an African safari. Local PH was an excellent tracker but a little quick to put up the sticks so you need to know your limitations and be able to judge quickly whether you have a good shot opportunity. Therefore, I would say that it is not the best choice for a first African safari. Lots of tall grass and brush and the shots which were all over 100 yards (except the buff which was 45). Camp equipment and vehicles need to be updated/better maintained and I believe that is going to happen fairly soon. Hunting area is about a 7 hour drive from the airport but it is in a comfortable vehicle. Lots of animals and I got everything I was looking for, including a nice old lion-scarred buffalo. Also, my wife came as an observer, and they did a great job keeping her involved and getting her many good photo opportunities.

Love the buff and the kob !

Congrats for a great hunt, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the hunt report! Nice pictures!

Thank you for posting your hunt report and great trophy pictures!

What other animals did you see, but not harvest?

We saw lots of lion tracks and a large male lion by a kill; elephant; hippo; lots of roan; three cheetahs; and one croc. Lion and roan can be hunted but they were not on my list for this trip. Elephant, croc, and hippo are protected. The elephant were a bit on edge (one mock charged our vehicle) because they get harassed by poachers. There were also duikers, oribi, warthog and reedbuck. Overall, a good assortment of game. We got photos of elephant, hippo, and cheetah, but we were not quick enough to get a picture of the lion and croc. Also, it is not like the Southern Africa hunts where you can head out into the bush and if you see something you like, shoot it, and then pay the trophy fee. Quotas seem to be strict and the pricing methods are a bit different than Southern Africa, although the overall cost was comparable to a Zimbabwe buffalo/plains game hunt.

Yeah, I have always wanted to go for the plains game animals...especially the roan.

Thanks for the report, sounds like you guys had a great adventure.

thanks for sharing your memories with us ,temps sound pretty warm up there .
was that a specie of water buck in your third photos ??

Burkina Faso seems like a great option for a plains game hunt in wester africa. Nice report and great animals. Like the hartebeest :D

It is called a "Sing Sing Waterbuck" in Western Africa. Yeah..... it was pretty hot, but not humid so you weren't sweating too much.

That waterbuck is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your hunt report and photos.

Thanks for the report TiborV. I've been thinking pretty hard about the Lion and Roan in Burkino Faso. Looks like I might need to do that! Did your PH speak English?

The PH only spoke French, but knew a few English words, like "shoot." An interpreter needs to come on the hunts, so there is an extra body in the field.

Glad you had a great hunt. Thanks for sharing the report and photos.

All the best
