OK. Here is the question. If you had to choose one "little" guy, which one and why? Duiker? Steenbuck? Reedbuck? Klipspringer? Etc.

I already have enough on the wish list and was thinking about adding one of the little guys.

Forgot to mention that I'll be hunting the Eastern Cape.

IMO probably Klippie on foot getting up in the mountains and searching for a quality 4,5 inch'r + can be tough... They are quick to move over those rocks....

They can also be spotted by glassing and planing a strategy is always an interesting approach...

My best always...

All of them are fun who am I trying to kid! :) :)

Plus one klipsringer in the mountains is a great hunt I would do it again. Chance in counter if you see one a grysbuck cape or sharps don't pass it up because you will most likely never get it again suck cautious little guys. Unique or rare and if your in an area that has them go for blue or red duiker. Suni or dik dik. Just hunt them all once you have done one you will want more

LOL why not ask, which is your favorite child!!!

Although Klippy is way up there, if forced to choose, I would pick Vaal Rhebok. Although my hunt was short, it was not typical, they are tough to find, tough to stalk and just plain tough to get and IMO, the stickbug of Africa, is one of the coolest and is also found only in the EC and a small portion of KZN.

Of course as you say the list is already full so maybe one for a later hunt. Klippy gets my vote for a hunt for a more plentiful species. Although Steinbok were real fun, Steinbok on the flats would be a great hunt for a father and son.

I don't have any of small antelope, seems dumb but I have hunted properties where they were off limits to shoot. Oh, I saw them for sure. I really want to go back and hunt them ALL. I really want to take nice mature animals too. And I might have to break that no more taxidermy rule that everyone says I should follow.

I'll tell you for the money a steenbok is AWEFULLY pretty. But I can't wait to go Vaal Rhebok hunting!

They are perfect for lifesize mounts, cant say that about a Kudu or Eland!

An old timer I know has a great mount. It is a pedestal with a habitat that has a lifesize Grysbok, Steinbok, Klippy and Duiker. It was the proudest moment in his hunting career (that spanned the globe). He was the 1st hunter to ever kill all 4 on 1 hunt with that outfitter in Zim.

The Steinbok and Grysbok hides are switched but he doesn't know that so I haven't mentioned it, but to the Taxi who did it... come on, really?

Before I do that hunt, I'll ask for some taxidermy suggestions, definitely would like to life size the blue & red duiker, cape grysbok, dik dik...maybe steenbok.

I have seen, but not hunted per se, most of the little ones on various hunts. If I were to choose, it would be the grysbok. They take off like a rabbit, often nearly underfoot. What a neat shotgun hunt that would be.

Although the Vaal Rhebuck is not considered to belong to the Tiny Ten, it is something you really should consider when going to Eastern Cape to hunt.
Among the Tiny Ten and considering that you are going to Eastern Cape, I would really consider trying to get a Blue Duiker. Not many places you can hunt them.

Personally I have fallen in love with the tiny ones and have decided not to pass up a chance on a decent one.
I have a long goal to try to get as many as possible of them with a bow :)

I passed on shooting a very good Steenbok with my bow in 2011 and I still regret that a lot....

Sharpe's Greybuck,really unique.

For me I would love a yellow back duiker. Very beautiful little animal.

Sense you are hunting the east cape if it was me. Cape grysbuck only because you won't find them anywhere else and they will probably be your most difficult hunt if done proper in daylight with a rifle or bow and targeting them. If you do get one after time your memory of hunt them will far outweigh any of the bigger plains game and the challenge of the hunt will be far greater. IMO it close cousin the sharpes grysbuck has probably been my hardest to get I have only seen three and spent many days looking.

If your on a budget Steenbuck or grey duiker you will probably see a few but finding a good trophy could be fun.

I'm glad to read I'm not the only one with the Tiny Ten bug. LOL! I have Blue Duiker, Grey Duiker, Steenbuck, Oribi and Cape Grysbuck on my list to hunt this July. The Blue Duiker is my top choice. Such beautiful little creatures. And I will definitely do a full body mount. It will be tough to get them all this trip because I have yet to get a kudu and that is a must to bring home this time. But I look forward to my future African hunts to hunt them all.
