Hello and good day all.

I am new here and seek some help.

Have been, to South Africa, on one plains game Safari.
That was, not a good trip at all. It is my fault, did not do the checking of references and the outfitter good enough. Now I know.

What I am seeking is a Safari done with hunting the right way, stalking, spott and stalk. No blinds and NO hunting from cars. I know one have to use a car to move to an area, but not just driving around looking for game.

I also do not mind tents, not after a luxury hotel and so, I am after hunting and enjoying the nature that we have around us.

But, where to go? With who?
(I have hear a lot good things about Namibia and Ndumo Safaris.)

All tips and help is welcome.

Great forum.

Norway,

Namibia is good, but don't crucify South Africa for bad PH's. Perhaps you must try South africa again in the near future with proper homework done. Ndumo Safaris is well known and respectable in the hunting fraternity.

Good luck! and all the success obtaining a good Outfit!

Hi Norway,

Try Kowas Hunting Safaris... check out the website at: Africa Hunting Safaris | African Trophy Hunting | Hunt Namibia
If you are familiar with YouTube, just search "Kowas Hunting Safaris" and you will be awarded with great video's that totally depicts the hunt itself...

Kind Regards, Jacques Strauss

Hello.

Oh no, not turning South Africa down, just heard a lot good about Namibia. But.....Have that about a lot of the destinations. Just need to do my homework better these time.

Thank you for the link Jacques Strauss, will have a look at it.

All of the African hunting countries have good and bad areas and operators but two you should also consider are Zambia and (Tuli Block) Botswana....... bot are good but both are different from each other....... You might like to Google Andrew Baldry of Royal Kafue hunting safaris for Zambia.

I think you can do a good plains game hunt in SA.I think some areas in SA maybe better then others for the kind of hunt you want to do.You just need to tell the Ph you want to drive to an area he likes and take a walk not drive around looking. You wont cover as much ground but will have your style of hunt.I plan on doing namibia next myself after my trip to SA this year. The things you hear about it make it sound wild and free and alot of place have huge areas to hunt.Depending on the animals you want to try for though SA maybe the best choice. If bushpig, nyala, bushbuck either reedbuck or colored springbucks are on your list SA is the place and there is others I did not think of that SA is the place to be.Good luck with this hunt and ask question and your hunt will be better then your last one in SA

I love hunting the East Cape Great plains game hunting.

You can find great hunts in your style in both SA and Namibia. Have some idea of what animals are of most interest to you and post here so we can guide you correctly as not all areas have all animals. The guys here are here to help and have helped many over the years.
As far a tents and "rough" camps go, Africa is not like North America and elk camps or maybe even Europe They have a very proud tradition and have worked hard to provide a superior experience including accommodations and food to their worldwide customers. They are, for the most part, required to provide a certain level of service to qualify their business for a licence. Enjoy the experience in their way of hunting camps.
As mentioned and probably as you saw the first time, the areas are vast so an all walking hunt may not be the best way but you can drive to an area the PH suggests and then start walking. I've done that also but after 5 miles I was done but I'm not 25 anymore either.
Study up on South Africa and Namibia. Both are great destinations but both are different. Ask all your questions here as you will usually always get honest answers.

Thank you all for the replys.
Oh, no. I am not giving up South Africa.

I know that a hunting trip in Africa is not as rough as a trip in america or Asia, that is fine. What I mean is, the quality on the accommodation is not something I pay that much attention to, the hunting and to find a good operator is far more important.
The main spices I seek is Gemsbuck, Kudu and waterbuck.

Not a Plains game offer but it shows a willingness to go for a walk to hunt with Jaco.
Maybe you can chat about Mozambique.

Hi Norway,

I am not sure how you sit money wise.
Plus you have not indicated what game animals you are looking to have a go at. To help us narrow your search for you.

An example: Are you looking for mountain Nyala. :)

Countries that you could take a look at.
1. Tanzania - Lot of walking - very few trails to drive. You spot tracks and start walking sometimes all day.
2. Mozambique - Lot of walking - again few trails to drive.
3. Zambia -
4. Namibia -
5. Zimbabwe -
6. Botswana -
7. South Africa -
8. CAR -
9. Uganda
10. Cameroon
11. Congo
12. Ethiopia

Blinds are usually a given while using bait for - hunting Lion, leopards and bushpig - So do not cut these short.

Thanks for all the links.
Oh, so many great trips.....

GAme, I do wish, seek for Kudu, Watherbuck and Oryx(Gemsbuck).

Welcome Norway_woods! Best of luck on your searches and i know you would get the right outfit for your needs from this forum!

Best of luck with all your planning!

Warm regards,

Hi Norway woods,

If you are interested in Namibia, I can highly reccomend Christi Lebenberg of Hatari Safaris ( look on google). My wife & I had a fun, great hunt with him and shot many trophies, all spot and stalk, no truck hunting. We spotted animals from high rocky areas and stalked them. Fabulous. My wife's family is from Balestrud. Happy Hunting!

Did you write a hunting report on this trip?

Norway

With your trophy selection ~ Botswana, Namibia and South Africa are the countries to look at.

I am booked with Trevor Lake for a safari package this year. I know he will find you the very best trophy he has. Besides you have a tour guide also as he will take you on game and country viewing.

contact him to see if he has any openings this year.

Trevor will take you for a stroll into the bush in KZN.

FREE RANGE NYALA HUNTING 2014

Thanks for all the links.

Norway --- Trevor Lake's website www.lakesafaris.co.za

Trevor hunts free range and Has good to exceptional Kudu and Waterbuck. Hunting out of Durban he has great Nyala, have you considered going after a Nyala.

Nyala is Trevor specialty.

These animals would be spot and stalk, and Trevor will walk and or run you ragged.
