Hunting reports

Hello

I am new to the forums and also to hunting Africa. This past summer was my first trip to Africa. The only thing I can say is "I'm Hooked" I hunted in Limpopo Province of South Africa. I shot Blue Wildebeest, Gemsbok, Impala and Warthog.

Just wanted to get some info from the more experienced Africa hunters. On my next trip, which I am planning now, I am on the hunt for a Trophy Kudu. I see a lot of good pricing in Namibia. Is this a good option or should I stick with SA? In either case can anyone recommend some great safaris? Why does Namibia generally cheaper than SA?

Thanks for the help

Matt

Lots of good Kudu in both RSA and Namibia. Might look at Kanana on Botswana. reports have been VERY favorable with some nice Kudu taken. Bruce

Namibia is different than RSA, much more lighlty populated. There are rabies outbreaks that knock the kudu numbers down in Namibia. Northern Namibia still does have some great kudu hunting. Some of the pricing is more expensive in the RSA, but the quality and quantity can be better. I think the Limpopo Province is really excellent for good kudu.

Both are good choices. In your case I would recommend Namibia simply because you nave never been there yet.

Welcome to AH. Good luck with your planning.

There are plenty of good Kudu in RSA and Namibia.
I have even seen a few in Botswana.
( the camera settings are wrong by the way)

My favourite type of reply.

Namibia and a couple from Bots.

I shot a big Kudu in Limpopo. My PH was Trompie Hofmeyr with Askari Adventures. We were about 2 miles from the Botswana border. Not really sure if Namibia is really cheaper than SA.

Wayne, that last bull has a stud of a neck on him! Id kill him just for the cape. Its easy to see how he broke that horn.

As mentioned some areas in Namibia had serious loses from rabies but not all areas. Check carefully. Also mentioned, SA and Namib are both good but both are different. Both can provide a very good kudu. Your choice with some very good outfitters here on AH.
Maybe tell us what you perceive as a good kudu?

Namibia is not cheaper than SA. Flights to get there are more. Shipping the trophies out of there is double what you pay in SA. I loved Namibia as a country. I loved hunting the open consession but all the travel and all the extra costs make SA more appealing to me.

huntsolo101 you make some valid comments about Namibia. I however am addicted to Namibian hunting at the present time. Yes it does take a day longer to get there if you use Delta to Joberg as I do (I'm an old airline driver and I fly Boeings-If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going!) but I find a night at the Afton House a nice replete to catch up on sleep and relax out of the airplane. Extra expense? Sure, but for me it's worth it. Extra airline leg to Namibia? Sure, but then again, if you are going anywhere in SA away from Joberg you have another airline leg to pay for also.
I have hunted SA twice, I had a good time twice, but I have had a good time twice in Namibia also. For me I just like the wide open spaces.
Both SA and Namibia are great destinations but they are different as you note. I guess it always turns out to be do your home work and make your pick. We seem to all (for the most part) completely enjoy our African trips.

Welcome to AH, you will find great kudu in both countries, so maybe your choice depends on what other animals you are planning to take.
