    Going suppressed....or maybe not

I contacted Hurricane Butterfly Research (a US-based company that specializes in firearms importing and exporting) and asked about taking suppressors to RSA. This is the response I got: I do not recommend taking suppressors out of the country. Temporary export of firearms requires an ACE filing...

    Going suppressed....or maybe not

Yes, absolutely... I should have clarified that point. If you purchase a suppressor overseas, leave it there, don't try to bring it back. I'd give it to my PH as a gift/tip at the end of the hunt, if it were me. If you do end up buying a suppressor over there, I'd look at it as an opportunity...

    Going suppressed....or maybe not

I would not risk taking a can through NY, or any other state where NFA items are illegal. If I were in your situation, I'd see if it's possible to purchase an appropriate suppressor over the internet from a retailer in the country where you will be hunting, and have it shipped to your PH so it...

    Suppressed Shotguns

I will try contacting them again. I believe I reached out to them once before and never got an answer, but it's been so long that I may well be remembering things other than how they actually are. Winchester makes a AA "Low noise, low recoil" load that is subsonic, but only comes in #8 and #9...

    Suppressed Shotguns

Red Leg, I apologize for jumping to that assumption... Force of habit. I've had a lot of people over the years turn their nose up when I mention suppressors and go, "But those are illegal!" and "Why would you want that?" Invariably they have been folks who have zero experience with suppressors...

    Suppressed Shotguns

Why? Because my hearing is important to me. I lost it (temporarily) in my right ear in my early teens due to a squabble with another kid; I was fortunate enough to gain back most of it in that ear after surgery, but I prefer to do what I can to protect what I have now so I don't have to go...

    Suppressed Shotguns

As you may discern from my screen name, I really enjoy shooting with a suppressor. I have one for nearly all of my firearms; however, finding a solution to effectively suppress a shotgun has been a challenge. Here in the US, options are limited. There are, to my mind, only two really viable...

    Suppressor

Thank you all for the info! Now if only it were this easy to get the damn things here in the US in the first place...the last one I bought took a year and a half for the paperwork to clear. Hell, I may buy another one in RSA and leave it with the PH as a tip, just for the experience of buying...

    Suppressor

Hello folks... hope I am not beating this topic to death. This is my first post here on AH, but I have been reading and learning a great deal. I am from the US and would love to bring a suppressor or two along for my upcoming trip to South Africa. I have searched the forums and this thread...
