    .338-06 or .35 Whelen

I have only experience with the 9.3 x 62 Mauser in Africa. It killed one rogue elephant, four cape buffalo, warthogs, and a few other animals. ONE shot per animal. NOT BAD! I really can't see any difference with the 35 Whelen with comparable bullet weights. The .338-06 is actually in the same...

    The .270 Winchester in Africa

I am laughing over your comment about the handgun! YES! Elmer was a hand gunner of great abilities. As he once said, "Hell, I was there!"

    The .270 Winchester in Africa

Did you intend to refer to Jack O'Connor and not Elmer Keith. Elmer really liked large calibers. Just saying, you know. However, both guys in my opinion wrote very good stories. When I first saw a elephant in the wild, I wondered. Elmer Keith, you are right about wanting a larger caliber. I was...

    Hello everyone

Thanks for the compliment! I have been a outdoorsman all of my life in North East Tennessee. Trout fishing, deer hunting, and especially hunting the numerous ground hogs. They grow really big here in East Tennessee and are known for their savage attitude(ha). Going to to the rifle range and...

    Hello everyone

I am always thrilled to meet other people who love the 9.3 x 62 Mauser. With 286 gr Barnes XBT and 58 gr of Big Game powder, I am getting 2500 fps +/-. This is in the same level as the .375 H&H magnum. I love my 9.3 so much I put a custom stock on the rifle. Beautiful! Shoots 1/2" to 3/4"...

    Hello everyone

Yes! I doubt if any creature could ever notice the difference between these three cartridges. Dead is dead...period!

    The .270 Winchester in Africa

Exactly! The .270 just works! What many people are not aware of is the .277 caliber bullet is a 7.04 mm bullet vs the ,284 caliber(European 7mm) and the .270 is therefore a 7mm bullet. itself. It just plain works.
