    Sako 75 - still a good buy?

One other Sako 75 consideration is the built in "Key" actuated safety lock in the bolt. Ask the seller about it, and examine the 75 you are looking at. If it has the key lock, and, you want the rifle be sure the owner has the key. I sold my 2 Sako 75's because of the key lock. I did not like the...

    Thoughts on Craig Boddington?

I can speak from personal knowledge and experience. I was at Camp Horno (Camp Pendleton) from 1975 to 1977 with the 1st Marine Division. Craig was a young Platoon commander and a superb leader with a great reputation, hard worker. I also followed his writings and met him a few times at S.H.O.T...

    270 Wsm or 270 Wby

I have both, and a regular .270 Winchester. .270 WSM Brass and factory ammo is very hit and miss for availability. Forget about finding it in South Africa. .270 WBY is sometimes found there. Now the reality, I load for all 3. You burn more powder, get more recoil, shorter barrel life (if you...

Old School vs. New Tech: What’s Your Go-To Rifle for the Veld?

I'm a wood stocked bolt guy through and through. For me it's the Sako 85, Wood stock, .30-06. It has never failed me. I have 3 safes full of guns, but when I go on a serious hunt, that's what I reach for.

    Browning Love?

I own several Browning X-Bolts and an X-Bolt 2. They come with a lot of features I used to pay a gunsmith for such as trigger work, recoil pad, muzzle brake. I find the X-Bolts very comfortable to shoot even in the hard kicking calibers. You won't go wrong with a Browning X-Bolt!

    What's your one favorite caliber?

The .30-06 for me! "The .30-06 is never a mistake"

    Factory Ammo Suggestions

Every gun and ammo combination is a law unto itself! You need to test several loads and determine for yourself what is the most accurate in YOUR rifle. Also test for smooth feeding and chambering, positive extraction and ejection. I have seen ammo where the rims sheared off due to cheap soft...
