Woodleigh & Geoff Bullet Performance

So now the "bad news" regarding my buffalo.

While that bull died very quickly (we didn't get a death bellow and he evidently died in mid-stride...all four legs facing backwards and lying on his chin), the bullet did not perform as designed.

The skinners found the remains of the bullet in the lungs, and it weighed a mere 327 grains...59% weight retention. More like what I would expect from a non-bonded bullet.

I sent the below pics to Woodleigh and Geoff commented that it appeared as though the bonding failed. I have to agree.
Woodleigh bullets tend to deform at high velocities. I had a Kynoch 300 grain round nose full patch solid distort before it could reach an Australian water Buffalo's heart. It still broke the Animal's fore leg , though. I finished it with a lung shot .
As an example of my point , Look at Norma's .505 Gibbs 600 gr FMJ Round nosed solid Ammunition. It only has a velocity of 2100 fps .

I love Woodleigh's... Only ammo I use in my 470 for lion and cats!

@tarbe I’m no expert but being an Aussie I asked a lot of questions about Woodleigh.
It seems the traditional style Bullets are old designs and work well at low velocity. They are making a traditional bullet that suits some of the old cartridges and they work well in those. The recommended velocities are on the packet.
I’m going to play with Woodleigh for my .375H&H, I don’t have easy access to any large game to use these but hop to hunt Buff at least once in this lifetime. I will practice on pigs with 270gn soft points etc, loading appropriately when I get onto some big game
Did the bonding just fail or fails because it was driven past its recommended velocity?
Would a Hydro or mono bullet suit your situation?
I do know Geoff does take the time to respond to questions.
Under 90 days now until I do my PG cull hunt in South Africa.
