Not fluent in knife making, are the three dimples hardness checks?

It has a twofold meaning for me in that my father used this as a mark on his tools to set them apart from others he worked with so I carried it on but it more importantly for me it is a representation of the Trinity with the three separate dots being one symbol as Father, Son and Holy Spirit are One
