Pierre David Deer Texas USA

So we had a mess today. My biggest Pierre David bull found a roll of wire some damn place and wrapped himself up in it. Took all day to get to where we could safely knock him out but we eventually did. It was quite the mess but he seems ok now. We’ll know how well he recovered in the morning. We’re praying he stays upright on all fours. Last we saw him he had sobered up quite a bit and rejoined the herd. It took about an hour before he was back up on his feet and sure footed. I got pretty concerned about his body temp while he was out but we kept him cool as we could and the reversal started working in about 8 minutes.
It is extremely rare that I will step in But this particular animal is extremely rare, the herd sire (he’s still young but is breeding), and this was a man made issue not a situation where nature is taking its course.
He’s down and the wire cutting begins
G'day Gizmo,

It sounds as though you had more of a hunt, than a proper hunt to capture him, I hope he recovers fully, I wish him well.

Old wire cab be a hazard on farms world wide, but can be useful for other projects if stored away safely. My cousins breed Dexter cattle, and they love chewing on the black twine that is used to pack hay bales, which also poses a real common threat.

Regards
Rob
