Confederate Enfields, D-Guards, and Tintype

Unfortunately no. The tintype is of an unknown Texas Confederate infantryman. It is almost certainly early in the war, and he has only been issued his regulation kepi and is otherwise wearing homespun. The star on it, tells us that he is in a Texas Regiment - almost certainly Hood's Brigade. Probably had the photo made before shipping out to Virginia which is where Hood"s Brigade fought so famously. The other is an unknown Confederate Cavalryman. He is fully outfitted in a Confederate uniform and British accoutrements.

The only known photo of my most illustrious ancestor, Gen. William Barksdale, was taken prior to the war. He fell mortally wounded on the second day at Gettysburg leading his Mississippi Brigade in what may have been both the most gallant and successful attack of the war. The Brigade broke Daniel Sickles III Corps before finally being halted just past the Peach Orchard on Cemetery Ridge.
