To ensure that you have a successful hunting trip to South Africa, the paperwork needs to be in place first. Before you submit your rifle permit application, it is necessary to ensure that all of the following documentation is available.
A completed and signed SAPS 520 Application Form, you must sign sections 4.3 and J3 on page 6.
Copy of the photo page of your passport, the copy must be certified as a true copy off the original.
Copy of Complete flight itinerary as issued by your travel agency or copies of your return airline tickets.
Proof of Ownership: A Firearm license / Firearm registration form. For hunters traveling from the United States of America, the CBP4457 Customs Form will be sufficient. Please note that this form must be dated, signed and stamped by US customs, the date must be for the year you are travelling, please also ensure that the rifles are described correctly on the form, the firearm type/make/model/calibre and serial number must be listed.
Proof of Export from Country of Origin – For hunters traveling from the USA the CBP4457 Customs Form will be sufficient. The copy must be certified as a true copy of the original.

TRAVELLING TIP: When travelling to South Africa with ammunition, the ammunition must be in an ammunition box or case that can be locked. The airline you are travelling with might require that the box/case be put inside your check-in luggage or they can check it in separately as one piece, please ensure that the box/case is practical so that an airline tag can be fixed onto the ammo box/case. Please also enquire with the specific airline you are travelling with regarding their specific requirements for the ammunition.
