The past week or so, I have been obsessed by these cameras situated at various WH in SA. There are so many Nyalas at the Tembe cam I can't believe it. I only saw three when I was in Zim. The Jumbos there have tusks that have to be > than 60. Plenty of lions too!! The other cams have much to see as well. For some reason watching the action at the various locations and hearing the sounds live just takes me back to my time in the African bush.
There's a fat, giant croc at the Indube cam, I mean, he has to be over 14' and he's so fat I am amazed he can get around. Plenty of other plains game but I have yet to see a buff, eland or kudu.
I dunno man, call me crazy (bonafide at this point) but you guys/gals that need an African fix must look into this site. Africam.com. It's truly friggin awesome (despite the stupid advertisements, not too bad though).
However, I get quite sad though at times. When I watch I just long to be in the bush so much it's overwhelming . Sometimes I can't sleep, so I watch these cams to help me on those many horrible nights. I am addicted completely. I close my eyes, listen to the sounds and pretend I am there again..
My life will never be the same. You, Mother Africa, have spoiled and tormented me with your call to come back again.
Sorry for ranting on folks. Thanks for letting me vent..
Cheers All!

You have some serious problems there Jane (lol), I love to hear other people have a hard time letting Africa go, makes me feel better

I am telling you Enysse, too many moments of the day are filled with my memories of Africa. I NEED to live, breathe and die there. The first time I went was in 1995, a grand prize from a photography contest. Two weeks, all expense safari to Kenya. Private plane, private tour bus, 5 star accommodations. At the time I was struggling to make ends meet. I'm talking mobile home and almost welfare. I think it was a gift from God. For sure. I am glad I can make you feel better because you and our fellow AH friends do the same for me. Best support group ever!! Although I must add, it's a bit odd at times being a female.

I joined right after your first Post Jane,,,I check in Daily,,am I nuts or does it get light in SA at 4:00 AM

Oh I am so glad you looked into my advice!! Thank you for trusting me! When I watch (log on) the sun seems to come up in SA just after 10pm MST. I think around 05:00 in SA. I log on plenty when it's night time there for sure though, Mostly when I am catching-up on emails and bills and stuff. I've seen a couple of cool beasts thus far but nothing like in the early am and dusk (SA time). So you like the cams? I was worried it was just me... Did you see the vast amount of Nyalas at Tembe?

I remember when I was in Zim and my time to arise was at 05:00. It was still dark but there was some light and it was defo sunrise.

It,s unfortunate that my work Schedule Doesn,t allow a lot of daytime(SA) viewing I catch up on weekends

I am just glad the cams are an option. :) I don't sleep very well so I find the live experience very comforting..

i can relate 100% with your sentiments jane
its web cams and web sites like these that are keeping me sane when the 'urge' [call of the wild] came over me.
be strong!

Thanks for the support gentlemen (ladies). I am a bit embarrassed with my emotional rants but it's nice to know I have others that feel like I do. I am privileged to be in contact with all of you. Always keep in mind I am a serious woman and I am sometimes a "victim" of my gender. I love AH. Sometimes I am shocked and confused (remember I am a liberal, semi-vegetarian, eat-what-I-kill-type-of-gal) but I really appreciate being a member of such a fine website and to be in contact with such a fine group of men and women. God Bless all of you!!
Again, my thanks for putting-up with me!!

Janey

Janey, all of us here share your feelings about Africa, where we would like to spend more time than we are able to.

To keep Africa close, I have my trophies all over my house, when I open the door, a gemsbok greets me, if I look up from the TV, a buffalo is looking at me. As I m writing this in my study I have seven trophies on the walls, keeping me company. Plus spears, masks....

As to you, (remember, here we are people from different countries with very different cultures) I just think you are one of us, and enjoy your company.

So thanks for being here with us.

Thank you Nyati!! I have the same setup in my little house. I am still waiting on my eland and water buck but I am patient. This is a nice place for me, and I can say to you also thank you for being here sharing your company with me as well.

:)

Well Jane I think its all been said Your one of us, addicted! Welcome to the club.

The call of the Hyena

I know most of you must be sick of me ranting about the live Africam thing, but just now I heard the call of the hyena. Nothing gets/had my blood pumping more than that sound at night in Africa, aside from the lion and leopard. I will be forever haunted by the African night. What a rush. Better than *&*% any day. I'd give THAT up for the African bush sounds and sights no problem.

Feeling Primal,

Jane

 Hey Spike she's going to be in Dallas in January you can come and practice your call of the Hyena :heh: Lets see how good you are.
