Good Gun Deals This Week

It is currently listed for 2900€. I would not call that H&W money…

Will be interesting to see what it goes for. Keep in mind the 25% buyer’s premium on top of the winning bid.

Haenel style action single shots typically sell in the States in the $4500-$5500 range. I believe that H&W is using the Haenel patent just looking at the external designs. (Don’t quote me)

I would think that by virtue of it being in a useful varmint and roe deer caliber, plus it being a Hartmann & Weis, it would fetch 5000 EUR. @VertigoBE if you need a roe stalking rifle, this would probably be worthy of your collection.

“Need” is such a strong word…

:D

The biggest holdback for me is that the caliber would only work for fox and roe deer here. While usually we go out for wild boar /roe deer / fox / red deer. This is way too light for wild boar and red deer.

But 2-3K to own a Hartmann & Weiss… ???

Well with the buyer’s premium, transit cost and paperwork it’s more like 4k but still…Good thing it would physically not fit in my safe… I can’t believe I’m actually tempted to get a 3rd single shot. Please @VertigoBE, buy it so that I don’t.

Well the estimated value is 2900€ but it might go for lower ;)

The auction date is 24/10, and I’ll be otherwise occupied then, so I cannot participate to the auction. Funds are a bit low now, or rather other priorities. So I will not bid for it. But I’m tempted

I was wrong with the action type. It’s a Heeren action. I checked over here in the States, mid-grade examples of Heeren action guns typically sell around $5800-$7800. No idea what the cost premium would be for a Hartmann & Weiss finished Heeren action today, but I’d imagine that’s a $50,000 gun on a cost replacement basis.

How does the expression go? You are killing me ! :p

No idea what the hammer fee or export fees would be to bring it to the States, but having zero use for such a caliber and relying only on a single picture, I wouldn’t hestiate to pay $5500 USD all-in on that rifle from my position. If they’d take the work, I’d be tempted to send it to H&W To turn it into a larger caliber even.

I have no connection to this ... but on a local Boise Idaho USA site:
https://www.zidaho.com/index.php?a=2&b=70726
Most of these sales are F2F - but you might get the fellow to ship.

Also noted on GB - under Lock Stock and Barrel pages are several large bore rifles...

Just passing this along - good hunting!

There's a left-handed .375 Ruger Hawkeye on Alaska'sList for $700. I didn't look at the ad because I don't care about it, but sounds reasonable enough.

This is a good deal. Two reasons, 1.) James Woodward retailed gun with Woodward being one of the most prestigious gunmakers in history and they were only in business a brief period (way above H&H) 2.) It's not clearly advertised as to what its features are. The cocking piece peep sight is a big deal, they are usually inlet in the tang which is less desirable and a more common upgrade. Second, it is a "take down" meaning a take-apart gun where you can remove the stock.

Value of the gun is $2800-$3600 in my opinion, assuming no latent defects hidden.

Would you request additional photos of anything in particular?

What is your opinion on this? Overpriced?

Since we are talking about MS rifles, is there a cut off as to when the rifles were quality or not?

I came across a 70’s Steyr in 7x57 with EAW Pivots for less than 2k CAD. These later models seem to pop up more often than pre-war so I am curious.

I would like a 1903 though.

1950/1952 MCA models of Mannlichers are hard to sell and lower value. They were sold via Stoeger and others as importers. Their safety is a bit low grade too.

In my opinion (and you may disagree), the reason Mannlichers are valuable is because they were in early safari calibers and were engraved and retailed by storied British/Indian firms: Dickson, Gibbs, Rodda, etc.etc. Add to that, these firms, usually British, embellished and enhanced them in various ways with George Gibbs models being famous for custom calibers, restockings, and changes to the bolt. They also often had custom side safeties on the bolt shroud too. Storied vintage guns.

The 1950 MCAs were sorta mass produced models. Usually 270 winchesters, rarer 7x64 brenneke, .243, 30-06, etc.

1.) Customized British Sporters
2.) Low mounted claw optics installed AFTER removing/modifying the original flag safety
3.) Take apart (pseudo takedown) models in original British Cases, retailed by the sexy makers
4.) Storied British calibers preferred. (e.g. 256 Gibbs)
5.) Custom standing/folding sights and cocking piece aperture sights preferred.

1970s Steyrs are just well made working guns. not collector guns unless in the prolifically engraved grades.

Just my opinion.
