Hi from Queensland Aus

G'day 425SCHADE,

Thanks for the welcome and heads up on the possible trail for a 550 in 375.

North shooters supplies in Vic is the one?
Roughly how long ago did you see it?

Will definitely be chasing it up regardless.

Thanks again.
No worries, and yes I'm sure it was them. It was at the Bathurst show a couple of months back, fingers crossed its still available for you. It was high $1600's from memory, a good price I thought.

No worries - always happy to help encourage expenditure on things that matter ;-)

Hi all,

Long time lurker first time account creator / poster.

Born in Zimbabwe before leaving during the early 00's to Australia.

Collector and owner of some odd cals. and wanting to break into the "african" cartridges.
Joined the page to learn more about the larger cartridges maybe even secure something if a classified pops up in aus. Been chasing a newer /low round count CZ550 safari mag for months in 375 H&H and feel I missed the boat when then fell out of production.

Currently own a Ruger Alaska in .375ruger and a hawkeye african in 416ruger... as well as several odd cartridges (30/40Kragg / 45-120 / 7.5x55swiss to list a few).

Thanks for the read.

The way you Queensland's ar going you are soon going to outnumber the people from the GREAT STATE of NSW on the forum.
Bob
There's no such thing as oddball calibers but there's plenty of interesting ones like @rdog and his beautiful 318WR loaded with 250 grainers

G'day from Australia.
Nice to have you join us.
I think there a few members in QLD.
OddBore our resident Odd Ball member is currently in QLD, he might look you up and try sell you on the .35 Whelen if he catches this thread.
@CBH Australia
No I'm back home in Gods country NSW.
Now play nicely with our new member. There is nothing odd or strange about the 35 Whelen or a good 25 cal.
I just hope our new member @Oddbore 375 doest have a 243 because you know the outcome of that
Ha ha ha ha ha

Didn't mention an odd bore.

Anyway if I'm not telling people that NSW stands for
Sydney
Newcastle
Woolongong

I'm referring to it as The rip off state. We always had the highest registration and licensing in the land of Oz.

You won't understand because you live on the prveleged side of the great divide. I'll give you credit, you know where Broken Hill is you even been here but many people do ont know there's people on the Western 2/3 of the state.

I've been asked, Broken Hill, That's outside of Penrith isn't it?

Chat soon,

Chris I only live this side of the great divide because that's where the wife lived when I married her. I spent a lot of time living on your side of the hill when I was younger in Wagga.
They weren't wrong BH is outside Penrith, 1,200 km outside of it.

G'day Bob,

You probably wont believe it but tag another onto the Sunny Coast .

Im sure we will eventually align with the number from the South. Nothing wrong with a bit of competition.

I always seem you pick up the odd calibers. My first was a 7.5x55 Swiss my last a 7mm RUM.

Cheers

There is a backstory to the .243 that must be shared

You really need to go down the 35 road. Are you anywhere near Aussie world/ old Ettamogah pub.

@Oddbore75
The back story is I hate the 243 with a passion and think the barrel are only good for tomato stakes.
To much bullshit advertising when it came out and couldn't live up to Winchesters pie in the sky shit they wee spinning.
Seen to much game wounded with one.

243 was designed for small animals but I fortunately the advertised spin made hunters think it could be used for much bigger.
Bob is right on the wounding.
I used a 243 for many years though. Gave my last 243 to a step son.
Acquiring a 25/06 shortly that is extremely accurate from a friend who is selling off - his health is far from good.

Glad to see you are going down the 25 road. Nick Harvey wrote an article in sporting shooter this year extolling the virtues of the 25s over the 6mms. He also did a good write up on the 25-06 recently and had 100gn TTSX going 3,400fps out of one with outstanding accuracy. You won't be disappointed and wonder why you haven't got a fast 25 sooner.

Thats a fair reason for the dislike of the 243. It certainly was blown up as more capable that it really was (modern version is the marketing and capability of the 6.5CM)

My old man used to have one that he used on small to medium game (dogs / baboon / impala) he would spend hours figuring the capability of a cartridge before use.
