I've read here and been told by others that I should take some small gifts for the staff. I'd really appreciate some guidance about how much and for whom. I'll be hunting 8 days - plains game in Namibia with Omujeve.

When do you give the gifts? At the beginning? At the end? Do you give them all at once or a little at a time?

One person advised taking a Costco bag of hard candy. I did buy a bag at Costco, but it really seems excessive - 7 lbs!! What is reasonable? Do you hand out one piece at a time or just give a small bag with several pieces? Do you just give to the trackers and kids you meet along the way? Or, do you give to each staff member, your PH, etc.?

I thought that I would take a few little LED flashlights that with a company logo on them. Same questions - to whom, when?

My father used to run Ka-Bar cutlery. It goes without saying that I have more than a few knives. I thought that I'd take a pocket knife for the tracker(s). Should the PH also get one?

Is there anything else that I should take?

There is already a huge thread covering this ad infinitum, ad nauseam. All your questions will be answered there. Good luck!

Any idea what the name of thread is?

I think it was the "Tipping Guide". Someone else will confirm soon.

Thanks. By the way, do you ever sleep???

With Wayne in Africa, Jerome has to stay awake 24/7 to keep us from causing to much trouble.

The Brick still over there??????

I think he was planning to be gone for about 45 days. He knows how to do Africa right.

Holy Cow! I guess I wasnt paying enough attention. That is a good long safari.

If MtGoat makes it thru the Tipping Guide he may be sorry he asked!

Mtgoat Just as an idea you may want to ask the Outfitter/PH if there is anything that they would like you to bring for them as well. Shipping to Africa is out of this world, I mailed out 2 boxes of 375 H&H bullets a few weeks ago to RSA the package wieghed 5lbs to ship it cost over $58 dollars. Just a thought

USPS has Flat rate shipping so it,s a little cheaper to ship but it took about a Month to get a package to SA

I would not worry about gifts, they end up with all kinds of stuff (like knives) which they don t know what to do with. Except for clothing, which is always welcome.

The best gift in Africa is money ! Just tip generously.

Yes!! I agree! I bring most of the stuff (fans, first aid, batteries etc..) for myself but then leave them behind. Small bills are best!!
