Finished a 9.3x62 Mannlicher style Mauser.

@rdog the cross bolt on the one side the drill slipped when I was making the recess got the bolt head to fit flush with the stock and made a larger oblong recess. There were some not nice words said in the shop. I left it that way to remind myself to be more careful. doesn't impair the functionality of the cross bolt.

@Von Gruff This is a very dense piece of english walnut and I am very pleased with how straight and true the stock stayed, it is free floated to the width of a piece of paper from where I bedded the action to the end of the stock. Looking forward to seeing how she shoots. I have a couple boxes of 320gr woodleigh softs and solids that I would like to set this up for. But will test them and the 286gr options and see what shoots best.

@375 Ruger Fan Barrel is 22in.

@Jörg Krüger Yea, my reasoning is that I should let someone that doesn't have a 9.3x62 have one without me hogging up all the good ones. But only one and I keep three:Angelic:
Stock cross bolt, i have a similar thing happen to me, to fix it i had a friend
machine up larger cross bolt heads, of a size of a fornster bit i had that was just big enough to fix hole, fill the hole in the stock with epoxy or a wood plug
so you have a new center & use the fornster bit of the correct size to bore a new hole , just a suggestion as i could not bare to look at mine

Nice work , 9,3 one of my favorite Bushveld calibers. To truly qualify as a Mannlicher it should have a butter knife bolt handle so I guess this means you will have to build another one!

To truly qualify as a Mannlicher, it should have a Mannlicher action! ;) :)

AZDAVE, That is a very good looking full stock rifle, the lines are as they should be and not blocky. What nose cap is that?

I finished two rifle projects in the last couple days. I have wanted to build a Mannlicher stock styled 9.3x62 for a long time.
This rifle is built on a Interarms Mark X action, with a pacnor barrel, bold trigger and CZ iron sights. Barreled action is cerakoted.
Well this is also my 4th 9.3x62 so at some point I need to probably let one go.

@AZDAVE
Absolutely beautiful mate. With that many 9.3s it's,time to stop or you will end up a 9.3 tragic.
Ah who cares have fun and enjoy life.

7X57 Joe is absolutely correct.

Not all Mannlichers had full stocks, not all full stocked rifles or carbines were Mannlichers.

Here, from the 1939 Stoeger Catalog, is a Mauser stutzen (full stocked carbine) with 'butterknife' bolt handle and trap door buttplate with storage for break down cleaning rod and two cartridges. All were features for which the Mannlicher Schoenauer was renowned, but stutzen shown is all Mauser:

From same catalog, Mannlicher Schoenauer:

The MS was available as stutzen (full stocked carbine), rifle (half stocked) or as a Take Down Model of the Westley Richards style. Custom options were also available which did include full stocked long rifles:

Full stocks offered in same catalog with which to 'sporterize' surplus Springfield, Enfield, Mauser and Krag battle rifles from the 'War to End All Wars':

Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher was a prolific and successful firearms designer and direct competitor to Paul Mauser, John Browning.

It is ironic that in the U.S., and to a lesser extent elsewhere, his name is now only remembered for a style of rifle stock that predated his achievements by decades while he is seldom remembered as inventor of the Mannlicher Packet Loading System, also known as 'en bloc', or any other of the other advancements of firearms design for which he was responsible.

@Brian Rothhammer You are correct, I have owned several Mannlicher's a couple in 6.5x54 and one in 9.5x57. I just used the moniker of "Mannlicher style" that a lot of people associate with a full stock rifle.

@John Telford @7x57Joe I plan on at some point building a full stocked mauser with a butterknife bolt handle in 7x57

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen @Jörg Krüger :D Cheers: Thank you for helping me decide that I might just need one more 9.3, Cheers gentlemen

When you decide to part with one, I will gladly adopt one, and open up a spot in my safe. Oh, and I don't have that caliber :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I look forward to pictures when you build that 7x57 with butter knife bolt handle. I will need to get an otter box to waterproof my phone to keep the drool off first, so warn me before posting pictures.

Beautiful stock. Nice and practical. Getting that fore-end so slim is a good way to avoid warping, as water can be absorbed up to a hundred times faster through the end grain than the face of a piece of timber. A skinny, well-sealed fore-end has minimal capacity to absorb water and is also unlikely to warp when exposed to the heating/drying effect of the sun if/when left out at the range OR on a vehicle seat; whilst the owner has a gossip. Timber tends to warp in the sun when the heating effect of the ultraviolet radiation rapidly removes moisture from the exposed side(s) of the timber.

Good morning Made it to the range yesterday. I sighted it in with Privi factory ammo and shot from 55-300 meters, and it is a shooter. The privi shot in the 1 1/2in range groups at 100 and my 3 shot group at 300 was just a tad over 4 inches. So will be interesting to see how much better it shoots when I start tailoring loads for it. Plan on developing loads with 250gr Accubonds, 286-300gr aframes and 320 woodleighs. Solids will be CEB and hornaday. all in all very pleased with it's first range session.
