Hi all,

I am new to the forum and would like to introduce myself.

I'm from Zambia and due to the hunting ban in my country i will be venturing to Namibia and South Africa for my first ever hunts outside of Zambia.

Loved reading the hunt reports on Kanana Safaris as that's where i will be going in Namibia

regards,

Irfaan Omar

Welcome to AH.

Little confused.
Kanana Safaris is in Botswana, at least the one most of the recent hunt reports are about.

Good luck with your hunting ventures.

Sorry all, I meant I shall be hunting South Africa in August and Botswana in September with Kanana.

I will be driving 1800 kms from Zambia to Ghanzi where Kanana is located. Has anybody got experience of crossing the Botswana borders with firearms via road?

I have spoken to a few PHs who travel too and from Botswana to Zambia with their guns and they said it will not be a problem.

Irfaan let me know the procedure when you find out, also what do you need to take your guns out of zambia to another country as i have never done it before? always thought it would be too much aggro. that will be an interesting drive, would like to hear about it once you have done it please, as might be doing it myself. cheers mike

Hi Mike,

I definitely will advise and post how everything goes and whether it is advisable to travel with firearms across borders via road.

I had spoken to Leon Kachellhoffer who usually hunts with Luke Samaras in Tanzania and he assured me that everything should be fine. He usually travels by road from Botswana to Tanzania via Zambia and has had no problems.

You need to arrange a temporary export permit via the firearms department here in Zambia and that it is all you need. Upon reaching the border i've been told to get verification and clearance from the police and proceed to the Botswana side.

The Botswana guys are the ones i am scared of but its straight forward from there as well from what Leon has told me. He just told me to simply undervalue my ammo so that i don't have to pay a whole load of duty on it.

......

Irfaan, I will be able to answer this question in July. I will be crossing the Namibia/Botswana border by road. I am hoping that the invitation letter and hunting license should suffice.

thanks , doesnt sound too bad on the zambian side...used to do that with ammo into lusaka, but it doesnt work now!! how is leon?

Leon is fine, he is trying to set up some kind of ranch in Zambia as well. I don't think he has been guiding any clients this year so far.

Welcome Irfaan!

Thanks for all the welcome messages. I have been part of another forum where most of the guys are quite, shall i say.....full of themselves!
