Hi Bluey as follows

Birds - Geese - Puffin - Shag - Ducks -

Mammals - Reindeer - Seal - Arctic Fox - Rabbits - the last two are vermin - Rabbits are escaped / released pets which are causing the usual damage.

Minkie Whale if you boat is big enough :)

Hi Bob South Africa for my first trip - what to hunt - problem is I can only get there in Nov / Dec - Pref Nov - that curse of having to have a job to support the hunting -

Really just after cull animals - perhaps when I have been properly bitten with Africa I will enjoy trophies however I have never raised a rifle to trophy Stag when back in the UK. To be honest hunting camp meat would be brilliant ! + 1 Baboon.

So will see - just got the gun permits sorted here - so next step is to organise hunting

Sounds like fun let me know if you decide to do a trophy hunt at just about cull prices maybe I can hook you up. Please post some pics of your hunts in Iceland we would love to see what its like. I'm about to go to google to see what a Minkie Whale looks like don't know that I've ever seen one. Bob

Welcome to AH!

Welcome to AH.

If you have the gun permits worked out, the hard part is completed.

Good luck planning.

Welcome to AH. Do people come from out of the country to hunt in Iceland? Are there hunting outfitters or do you have to have a friend like you to hunt with?

Glad they have decided to let you play with firearms in Iceland.

There is a thread here on how to get those Frankfurt Permits within the new processes for us non EU folks.
Pretty straight forward.

Check through some of the offers listed here and contact some of those folks. There are some good outfitters to choose from.

do you mean that you can actually shoot a seal in Iceland , im on my way ...
in Australia its up to 250.000 dollar fine and weve got em coming out of our ears mate .
at any time during the day or night if l look out the over the side l will see a dozen or more furbags just swimming along beside the boat . and when I start the winches that number will double and by the time the net surfaces it will double again .any fish or part of poking through a mesh will be torn to pieces beforr I can land the cod end .
this happens every dsay im at see .
the numbers are way out of control so do think you could send us some of your government law makers

Yes they do the same here that is why they allow them to be shot though you can shoot them on land as well if you cannot be bothered to get in a boat ! Have not shot one yet however on the list - Two of them are currently sharing my new jacket :)

Hi Wheels they do usually Russians and Europeans for the goose hunting - however you can come here and shoot a reindeer - you have to get a tag - they run a system similar to the USA however you have a PH with you included in the cost of the Tag -

Birds in general just go shoot - lots of "public " land though I have personally perhaps 4000 ha to shoot over just via farmers and friends and I have only started sorting land for hunting on.

will PM you in a couple of days with some outfitters here though I have no idea what they charge or indeed nor can I rate their quality - but so far from the few hunters I have spoken with who use them I have heard nothing but good

Hello Odinsraven, I have wanted to visit Iceland since seeing it on TV during the "Fisher vs Spassky" days. It seems to be a beautiful country. In visiting it would be a shame not to get any hunting in though. (maybe a goose or two)

Don't worry about looking up outfitters for me just yet.(I appreciate your offer though) There are a number of hunts I want to take first. Maybe in a few years.

I like your moniker. I always thought Odin had two ravens though.

Glad to have you on AH and happy hunting in RSA!
