A decent day of ice fishing up here in the Great White North. 10 nice Kokanee (landlocked sockeye salmon) and 7 rainbow trout, between my wife and I in about 3.5 hours.

Very nice! Those look great! Congratulations. Wish we had reliable ice here, not for a number of years.

Very nice. Congrats

Congrats. But just sounds horrible - even unnatural. :E Cold:

And enquiring Southerners want to know ........... are the eggs bait or the back-up plan?;)

Nice catch!

Haha - they were sitting there and seemed like a good universal 'scale'.

Me and a friend did some lake trout and burbot fishing a couple/few weeks back. Maybe 14-16 inches of ice at the time. Last report is 36+ inches on that lake.

Nice! And that's some thick ice! I picked up a hut recently, and a plastic toboggan to drag everything out on the lake. Nice to have.

Between ice fishing and extracting a hook from a stingray's mouth? This Southron will take the stingray. Ice ain't natural.

Looks like a productive day!

My buddy has a big pop up. Once the ice is over a foot we drive out, put a foam mat down to insulate the floor and set it up with cots and a little wood stove. We're good for an overnight for trout and burbot.

That lake has axlot of wind so the snow gets blown off and freezes thicker than most in the region. The interior Alaska river ice can be double that. I've seen videos of guys getting on ladders to run the auger down to water, it's crazy.

Nice haul...you can take me out anytime! I've been meaning to get out to my buddy's down by Kimberly for about 10 years to try the B.C. icefishing out but haven't made it yet. Haven't tried the drive in winter. He brought his kids icefishing with me in Sask a few years ago and they couldn't believe that I could drive my truck out on the ice and that I needed an extension on my auger to get through it. And that was around Christmas before the ice gets really thick!

Here’s the inside of my set up. We heat it with propane. Haven’t tried an overnighter yet though.

From the outside. The orange tent is for the Mrs. when nature calls. And I fish out of it when I’m on my own.

I know the ice in these scenarios is thick enough, but I will always remember falling through the ice in Missouri when I was like 12…ice fishing is a big negative for me.

Wow! That's some thick ice! Must be a dramatic breakup.
