As Sunday at DSC this year was winding down, not only was I bummin' as several fun days were coming to a close I was not looking forward to having to go back to work. Considering the economic malaise we continue to live in, it's good to have a job and I'm thankful for it. But I knew some very long days and including many weekends were on the menu.

Well the project I'm on is finally finishing up and I can take time to actually think about the trip. So three weeks from today almost to the exact hour, my son Austin and I will be boarding the big bird en route to Kimberly. I used frequent flyer miles to get these tickets which made things a bit challenging. So we'll actually fly to L.A. on Friday the 24th, spend the night near LAX and leave out the next morning headed for Frankfurt then Jo'burg then Kimberley and finally a short drive with Jacques and Hartzview!

Rifles are almost ready, one last one to sight in that will happen tomorrow. Just a little bit of clothes shopping and we'll be fully ready!

Way to go Phil !

"with every dark cloud there is a silver lining".

My very best regards to both Austin and yourself, travel safe, shoot straight and saviour the memories of your first Father & Son African hunt, you'll only have one first.

Very best of hunting luck,

Paul.

I hope you and you son have excellent trip with great memories.

Phil, Have a wonderful trip with your son, what a great memory for you both. Be safe, shoot straight.

John

Phil, you and the boy have a great time! I look forward to a year or two from now when I can take mine on his first trip. Take care, shoot straight.

It's coming....

Time for the wind up and let the excitement build.

This should be fun for you both. Is this Austins' first trip?

Thanks gents. Yes BB this is Austin's first trip and should also be his first big game animal of any kind. He only drew a deer tag once here in Arizona and we only had a couple days to hunt due to football. We were getting him close enough for a shot when a doe busted us.

So he's definitely looking forward to this. Got the .375 sighted in today. I thought I was having a last minute rifle emergency last week when we were sighting in the other rifles. I had taken the scope off this rifle and put it on my son's swapping in a different scope on the .375. Long story short, I'm using QD rings on the .375.......make sure the durn things are tightened properly!

Phil you and Austin have an awesome trip! Who will you be hunting with and how long will you be gone? Deb and I fly on the 29th and I'm having to take care of last minute details while working out of town. Tell us whats on the wish list just to get us all pumped up. Bob

Bob,

Hunting with Jacques at HartzView. We're going to just miss each other, as we'll be in Jo'burg onto Kimberley on the 27th.

For Austin, we'll be trying to put him on Springbok, Blue Wildebeest and Kudu. We may just have to have an impala in there too.

For me, Black Wildebeest, Gemsbok and an Eland. If a zebra presents itself, I may just have to, the wife would like a zebra rug.

If your hunting with Jacques then the two of you are going to have a blast. I know what you mean about those Zebra Deb wanted one so I had her shoot her own. Add a Warthog for Austin as well even a management pig looks good in a skull mount its his first trip spoil him rotten. :thumb:

Phil,

Best of luck to you & your son. I hope y'all have an awesome trip & safe travels. I want a full report.... I only have 371 more days before I head out!

Take care,

Brad

Phil I hope the gun powder I got you worked out? :) :)
Have a great trip with your son I took mine on his first hunt and he got a turkey and then the next hunt he got 2 200 lb pigs in 3 mins in a stand by himself. I was 400 yds away in another stand. It's great to see them do it!
Have a good trip and write about it when you get back.

The powder worked out perfect, unfortunately due to work I didn't know until last weekend when I finally had time to shoot again! Mucho gracias is not enough to say. I've had no time to work up a load in a different powder the last few months so I really needed the H4831.

My intention at this point is to take the laptop as Jacques has wireless service and hopefully do a daily running report. We'll see how that works. My usual modus operandi after a long day of hunting is shower, a beer, dinner, another beer and lights out. Rinse and repeat.

I hope you will have a great time and I am looking forward to the report.
It is 8 weeks from today till I board my flight to Eastern Cape :)

One week from today, should be sitting in LAX awaiting Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt! Packing underway, sleeping interrupted!

I bet..... I know you have to be super fired up!

I know how you feel Phil, Deb and I have 10 days and a wake up. We're having to pack an extra suitecase for all the gifts we're taking for our PH and owners of HHS everything from broadheads to iPad yes even cowboy boots LOL. you guys have a blast and tell Jacques and the guys we said hi.

Wish you the best, Phil !

And with 5 days to go........looniness set in...........I had a dream about hunting in Africa last night........woke up with a smile on my face.......the wife is concerned.

Phil,

I guess by this time, y'all ought to be close to the Hartzview Ranch. Be sure and keep us apprised. Anxious to hear all about. Good luck to you guys.
