Hello All!

I just ordered yesterday, a Sauer 100 Black in the classic 9.3x62!

I’ve seen gun articles, and videos about the Sauer 100 Classic XT, but haven’t seen anything about my Black.
She will have a 22 inch barrel, 1 in 14 inch twist.
What are the differences between the 100 Classic XT, and the Black rifles?
Can those who have a 9.3x62 please relay their experiences hunting with their rifles and this cartridge?
Thank you in advance for sharing!

classic XT is one of 3 that comes with a synthetic stock, and if the picture is accurate, yours looks like a classic XT.

S100 classic has a wooden stock.

That’s what I was thinking as well.
It’s a Classic XT, and for some reason, they called it Black in the advertising.
I saw some articles that were written about the XT, and the favorable reviews were outstanding. Then I saw some videos, and after about the 3rd video, I was like, I GOTTA HAVE IT!! LOL

I have that same model chambered in 6.5x55 Swede, and have been pleasantly surprised how accurate it is, over a variety of factory ammo. Will look forward to reading about what you think of your rifle when it shows up.

Yes, I will definitely give a review myself on the rifle.
From what I’ve read, in other calibers, it won’t disappoint. The accuracy is amazing in those rifles, apparently.

What kind of bases and rings did you use with yours?
I already have a Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55, otherwise I would have probably gotten the Sauer 100 in that caliber. I’m thinking you can probably make big hole groups at 200 yds with yours, right?

Anyway, I can’t wait till it gets here!!

I used the Leupold made Remington Model 700 long action single piece base. See the link, this may not be exact model but pretty close. The recommended Hexa-lock bases were not in my desired price range, the manual indicated the Remington LA base would work.

I've fired the following factory ammo in my 6.5x55, everything shot an inch or under at 100 yards benched, except for the Hornady Superformance 140 grain:
PRVI 140 gr PSP
Herter's 140 grain PSP
Lapua 120 grain Scenar (0.5" group)
Fiocchi 140 gr SST

I have a Ruger Hawkeye African in 9.3x62mm which I really like, otherwise would have considered the Sauer. Good luck with your rifle!

I am using 9.3x62 on boars and fallow deer. (semi auto rifle)
Absolutely effective.
You may rest assured of the effectiveness of the caliber.
Moreover, relatively slow speed of a bit over 700 m/s with 286 grain bullets will allow you wide variety of bullet choices, including "primitive" cheap soft points which will work without failure..
Simply put, it is a caliber to adore.
(I am not long range hunter, I shoot max at 150, 200 meters, and to this distances, is excellent)

on a rifle:
I have shot few shots in 300 win mag, from sauer 100 (from a hunting friend), and my impression of the rifle is good.
Drop at heel on this rifle, is allowing for very controllable recoil, and after a shot you will be back on target quickly if second shot is required (under condition you operate the bolt from shoulder). Trigger is fine, and operation of bolt smooth. Magazine capacity is proper. (for me that is 5 rounds in bolt action, double stack)
When I was buying all round rifle last time, this one came to final list to choose from.
(the list was down to: sauer 100, mauser m12, or sako 85, and price was not deciding factor) Finally I choose sako 85, but it was tough decision, which to be honest was made on the grounds of stainless steel mag on sako.

I am not sorry on this decision, but in my heart I still miss at least one german rifle in my locker.
(under pretext that a mans rifle must be German, revolver american, and shotgun Italian)

I would like one in 9.3 I've been looking at a few that were local in wood but never the cartridges I like lol. I am very much enjoying my mauser m18 and want to get another maybe a 243. Wish there were more models of these Sauer/mauser guns offered there in the U.S.

With all of the kudos placed on the 9.3x62, a few years ago, I decided I had to have one. After looking over the choices, I was able to handle the Sauer 100XT at the NRA Convention in 2019. That was my choice… for about five minutes. Unfortunately the Blaser booth was right behind the Sauer booth.

Excellent cartridge. We are relatively new to the cartridge, but have taken Cape buffalo, wildebeest, warthog and whitetail with it to date. Very manageable rifle that gets the job done.

I have the Sauer 404 and love that rifle. I have interchangeable barrels from 6.5 Creedmoor ,300 Win Mag & 404 Jeffrey. I have a few different rifles but this is the one I took to Africa last July and must say it did a great job and very pleased the way this rifle performs.

You will be happy with the 9.3x62 works very well...an excellent choice

Thank you!
I’m chomping at the bit to get it in and either buy some ammo for it, or roll my own for it.
I want to see the bang flops pile up from using it!

Yup! Your Sauer is real testament to how accurate the rifles are, along with the shooter behind it.
I love the 6.5x55 cartridge, and what it does on game animals.

There’s nothing wrong with having a Sako rifle. I was looking at them as well, but most were out of my price range, unfortunately.
They’re a proven rifle.
I stumbled upon the Sauer, and read the gun writers articles, and then I read some reviews by actual customers. Then I saw the videos, and I was hooked! I had to have one!
I wanted a 101 or 404, but alas, I am not independently wealthy, but I sure don’t feel like I settled with my choice.

I want to be using the 9.3x62 on the wild hogs we have here in South Central Texas, and witness for myself how well it works. I don’t have any doubt it will not disappoint!

I had actually tried to find a Mauser M18 in 9.3x62 here, but they were all sold out!
I saw that Sauer had partnered with Mauser to help with designing the Sauer 100, and I know that isn’t a bad thing, whatsoever.

Yeah, I hear ya about the Blaser rifles!
I’ve been wanting one for several years now, as well.
That’s a bucket list rifle right there, or until I win the lottery.
But, I’m not complaining about what I have chosen so far, and getting the Sauer 100.
I’m happier than a pig in crap that Sauer is making rifles I can afford.

Now that’s a good testament to the cartridge and your abilities on being hunters.
That’s exactly why I bought the Sauer 100, to get the job of hunting done, and done well!

Good choice, by all means.
As I mentioned, for me the price was not deciding factor in that decision making. For example, in Sauer line of production: Sauer 202, now Sauer 404 is premium rifle, with modular features - exchangeable barrels.
But, turnoff for me was single stack magazine, which I prefer not to have on hunting rifle. So my final list was Sauer 100, Mauser m12, sako 85.

For the reason of single stack magazine, and no need to have exchangeable barrels, I decided not to consider Sauer 202 or 404. So premium rifle is not always necessary to pick, when price is not deciding factor.

Optics, on the other hand, is completely different way to choose, and should be bought as high end as possible, especially for low light condition hunting.

I’m don’t fully like the single stack magazines either. They don’t allow for the same round count as a blind, offset stack magazine.
Well, you certainly got what you wanted, and more in your choice of rifle, no doubt.
Congratulations on your purchase, I applaud it!
I’m just tickled pink that I can own a Sauer!!

I fully agree with you about the glass one puts on their rifles. It shouldn’t be a cheap scope, whatsoever.
