Model 70 in 375 scope

I bought a Leica ER 2.5 - 10 for my 9.3x62. Very impressed and has loads of eye relief, maybe a scope to consider as well

That’s what is on my 375, but discontinued.

The R2 ? An excellent scope that is quality glass way above its price range.
Yes sir with the BDC 3.

"Wrong" is in eye of beholder. I mount all my hunting rifle scopes rotated 90' to the left. Gets the turret out of the way of the port for both loading and ejection. Top pic is dual dovetail mounts of a Leupold 2.5x rotated 90' left on my Win M70 416 Rem Mag. Bottom photo top to bottom- Montana 99 450 Watts, Win 70 375 HH, Win 70 416 RM, BRNO ZKK 375 HH. All the scopes are rotated 90' left. Obviously won't work with scopes having extra knobs or post or gadget reticles.

The problem with this is the amount of elevation adjustment you loose. Not a big deal if you never dial up.

BDC eh? Fouls up windage compensating for cross wind adjustment too I suppose! I’ll stick with low tech and minimal gadgetry. :)

On the Winchester 70 that I just scoped I got the Talley extra extended bases and QD rings. A scope to consider that would be between the VX3HD firefly and the VX5HD firedot would be the Trijicon accupoint 3-9x40 with the duplex or mil-dot reticle. I just put one on a 375 Ruger and it’s doing well. I love the illumination and I got it for $620

Wait, what?
I was on a Canadian goose hunt 2 weeks ago, we were hunting an a-frame in a cut field, the shooter on the end folded a goose As it came over the blind in a huge group and it crashed directly into the side of my head! Knocked me out of my stool, I bled everywhere from its beak glancing on my nose. Complete freak accident, no ones fault. The shooter tried to warn me but I was focused on shooting at the time. Grateful to be alive and I was able to place my gun against the blind as I toppled over. It missed my 60 year old father and hit me, I think it may have killed him due to blood thinners… etc. I’m 35 and in pretty good shape and it has absolutely floored me. Never lost consciousness but I really wanted to take a nap on that ground! I did shoot one more goose after I came to, and that’s when I REALLY started to feel bad from the recoil. Today is my first day to feel 100% since it happened. Spent 2 days traveling home from the trip before I saw a doctor, ct scan was clear so just been taking it easy. Of course as soon as we return home my gun guy gives me a call about the 375 model 70 I’ve dreamed about for years. I tell people it felt like someone put a car battery in a pillow case and hit me over the head with it. Be careful out there!

Glad you’re OK! That’s a lot of force! I once shot an incoming canvasback. It was falling past the front of our blind and my cousin reached out to catch it. It just about dislocated his arm. He couldn’t lift his arm and had to stop shooting for the day!

For you guys in Ontario, that was in Point Pelee back before it was illegally closed to hunting.

this is a serious contender, gotta check these out in person.

:ROFLMAO:Can we nickname him Fabio?:ROFLMAO:
I forgot about that!

I had a straight 4x Leupold on mine for years (as in my avatar pic) because after spending every dime I could save to get the rifle, it not only was all I could afford, but about all I could find that fit easily. I have recently changed it to a VX5 HD 2-10 FireDot and just LOVE it!

I have a model 70 in 375 and I outfitted it with a Leupold 1.5x5 and a 3.5x10 with Warne QD mounts. It works great, my 1.5x5 is sighted dead on at 50yds and the 3.5x10 is sighted at 3 inches high at 100yds. Essentially 2 rifles in one and the Warne mounts work perfectly as long as you mount them and use them as they instruct with both rings pushed forward on the bases, toward the muzzle, for initial mounting and each time you swap scopes, just hold pressure forward as you tighten both thumb screws. You’ll fall in love when you shoot it.

I agree that the 2 scope method can certainly increase a single rifle’s purpose.
The scope on my rifles usually defines the purpose more so than the cartridge, between similar performing cartridges. Some rifles that I have in the same cartridge chambering, the scope definitely defines the intended use. A lot of times this is splitting hairs.
Other than near actual dark hunting, I do not think that I sacrifice much using the higher dollar 1.1-4’s,1-5’s, 1-6’s with 24mm objectives. These really give up little in the transmission until it is pretty dang dark in close range situations.
Though if extremely low light hunting is in the program, the 42, 50mm’s and larger objectives would be my choice with a 6,8, or 10 power.

Very few Leica mentions, but they are such good optics. It is a pity they aren't more popular - if I recall correctly that is because they duffed their after sales service in the US. I rate them above Swarovski, it is close, but Leica is a tad clearer.

Did you use different ammunition for the two scopes or the same? I was considering a 300 gr Accubond for my 4.5-14 and a 300 grain soft point and solid combination for the 2.5x.

Remember that the human eye sees a maximum 7mm exit pupil so divide the objective by 7 and that is the highest magnification that you can use in the dark without sacrificing light transmission. 50÷7=7.14x
24÷7=3.42x
56÷7=8x
It all depends on what you're trying to do. See detail or get a quick sight picture...

Yes fully aware of the 7mm exit pupil.
But 7mm and Plus alone does not define the view nor light transmission through the glass.
I find the straight tube 24mm’s useable for me, at the distances that I shoot in low light when set at 4 to 5 power.
As I stated, the 42, 50, and greater objectives have the advantage, with equal glass and coating quality particularly at longer distances.
Binoculars wise, the larger objectives accompanied with X’s definitely have advantages.
But, with my lower powered scopes I am using them to aim not spot antler /brow tines. The higher powers and larger objectives have the advantage for antler identification.

I use 42mm and 50mm objectives also. I am almost as big of optics fan as I am rifle fan.
These are awaiting rifle matching.

Kevin, I personally rate the Leica’s very highly. The Magnus 1-6x24mm is a favorite scope. I also like the discontinued ERi 2.5-10x42.
In similar scopes, I cannot decide what I like best. Between the upper end Kahles, Zeiss, Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski, and Meopta.
There is something about most all of them that I would tweak. Some I paid to have tweaked when offered by the manufacturer.
I will say the Leica Magnus 1-6.3x24mm, may be favorite straight tubed scopes. If I could change one thing on them, it would be a 4 reticle more like the older #4’s. A tighter/smaller window/opening would be my choice. I have one of these on a 416 Ruger. And a couple of more of them that I am trying choose rifles worthy of them.

Hi Id, as you know I have/had a 1-6.3x25 on the Ruger No1 I have just sold to my buddy, excellent set up.

Please may I seek your expertise upon another choice to be made? I had a Swarovski Z5, the one with the coloured turrets and the paralax adjustment on the left on my FX air rifle where the trajectory meant I used parallax and elevation frequently for varying shots out to 100m or so. Then my son-in-law acquired it to put on his 30-06 and my feeling is that the paralax is a bit wasted on that. So what i had im mind was to get him a Z3 4-12x50 for the 30-06 and get the Z5 back on the FX. My question is whether this all makes sense? He shoots 100 to about 400 metres.
