I looked up the dates on Octoberfest 2022. It’s actually sept 17-oct 3. Depending on when you go you could actually hit the peak of the red deer rut in many European countries mid-end September. If you are not after a huge trophy you could find a good hunt at a reasonable cost.

I would not consider roe deer in this time period unless it’s an add on to another trip. I think you are really missing out on what roe buck hunting is if you don’t hunt them in spring or during the rut in July/August.

October can be a bad time to hunt red deer through most of central Europe. The rut has just ended, and mature bulls are typically in the thickest cover they can find recovering. Also, Roe deer hunting is at the very end of its season which can make hunting them problematic depending upon the region.

You mentioned wanting to to something within a reasonable budget, so that likely will eliminate the more exotic things like bear, chamois, Ibex, etc.

Again, I would strongly urge you to take thirty minutes, pick up the phone, and call the good folks at the hunting consortium. Bob Kern has been doing this for a long time and they are experts at matching budget with desires with an area you are already planning to visit. I have hunted fallow deer, boar and roe deer in October in Austria which would be an easy combination with a trip already planned for Munich. Our vacation plans included Vienna and Salzburg. We stayed in great country inns and lovely hotels in Salzburg and Vienna. All of it was put together by Bob's professional team.

I will be contacting them, thanks Red Leg

The dates of when i'll be over there are not finalized yet but I will probably be over there between Sept 15-Sept 25.

@Red Leg
You are right for october not being prime time for roe and red deer. Rut over. My reasoning was, as an option for authentic and iconic european species, in the time frame of october beer festival. The seson for them may still be open, although not in rut.
Fallow deer i skipped to mention, being basically introduced species from midde east. The species i mentioned are trully continental, authentic species., combined with well organised hunt in local traditional manner, should give true hunting cuktural experience.

Personally, i never hunted in high Alps, and in the same time ciontrolling the budget, and Austria being near to me, i keep my focus on alpine marmot to hunt, depending on my availanle hollidays in hunting season in the fall.
I politely disagree.
During the Oktoberfest (2.nd Weekend) is normaly the best time for the red deer rut in our Bavarian mountains..

sorry, I was so in thought that I have not translated it.
the rest
But in Germany everything is in private hands. Almost nothing to book in the classic sin via an agency.
My recommendation: Visit the Oktoberfest and then go to neighboring Austria to the stag rut (and chamois).

Why is there so few opportunities to book hunts in Germany compared to other countries? Have they made licensing requirements for non-residents difficult or is there just too large resident hunting population in Germany and quota is already used?

The latter and a different system. Land is leased to a hunter over time which is usually about 9 years and the game shot belongs to him. If you compare population density you get an idea of the difference: USA: 33people/km² vs. Germany 233/km². Lots of roads, cities which reduce potential hunting grounds significantly.

I was unaware Germany was that densely populated. When I asked the question though I was thinking compared to other European countries. I’ve in hunted France, Spain, and poland. I see hunting opportunities in most European countries, but I can’t recall ever seeing hunts advertised for Germany. Even in densely populated England there are many roe buck hunting opportunities easily available.

Germany has true hunting paradises and indeed where the dense settlement does not play a role.A good hour's drive from here, mountain red deer with over 8 KG ,roebucks with 450 gr and strong chamois.
No fence, free roaming, only Wintergatter/winterfence for red deer no hunting allowed inside
But this is a closed society. They dont need stranger.
It is also not a tradition in our country to mediate game through agencies.
If someone assigns shootings and that is not so rare, you have to look in the hunting magazines. To hunting travel agencies nobody turns.

What type of hunt do you look for?

Are you interested in participating in a driven hunt, with all the traditions and ceremony that goes with it?

Are you looking for a quiet ansitzjagd in divine solitude?

Are you you fit and able to keep up with a stalk in hills or the mountains?

I am open to any hunt really, driven hunt included. I could lose some weight but overall I am fit because I am young so I wouldn't be too worried of mountainous terrain.

I am going to Romania in October for Roe deer, Fallow deer, boar, and Chamois. I probably won't have time to report on my experience in time to help you plan for your hunt. My dad had a good experience this past week with the guys I am booked with.

Hey sorry to revive an old post but have you heard from George? It’s almost time for me to fly out and I can’t get in touch with him

I've been in contact with him several times over the last couple of weeks, as I'm also scheduled to head over soon. His initial response to me got stuck in his Drafts folder instead of being sent, so maybe ping him again and mention that if he sent a reply it was never received.

PM sent sir
