"I Want A Heym"

UKH - please can I ask for your opinion on the Chapuis .470. I own a Chapuis in 9.3 x 74R, which is a wonderful little rifle, handling like a shotgun and nicely fitted so recoil is not unpleasant. As an out-of-the-box product it is extraordinarily good - in fact, amongst the best rifles that I own. Gregor Woods, in 'Rifles for Africa' says that the Chapuis .470 is weighted towards the barrels and does not handle well.

I am currently reading Jim Corbett, and there is much mention of his 450/400!

If one has a 9.3x74R then the next step up I would think would be either a .450 or a .470.

Major Bonkers, just a bit on Jim Corbett's 450/400, there are a couple of you tube review videos on it that show it being shot too, it looks to be very well balanced and mild recoiling. Also the Heym field series videos of Phil Masaro shooting the 89b in that calibre. Does anyone know if Phil has done a review on it?

I find my Chapuis to feel quite good and weighted properly between the hands. Very similar feel to my Heym there is a beefier feel with the palm swell and beaver tail forearm being slightly larger that the Heym. Both very well built guns I have handled a few 89b and they do feel slightly more nimble as there palm grip is a bit more open feeling that even the 88b. If ether of these rifle didn’t feel up to the task I would trade them both in for a matching pair of 89Bs in 450/400 and a heavy in a 470 or 500

I would respectfully suggest that you just call Chris and order today! . You wouldn’t be disappointed and it would be in your hands before you know it.

Like @Daniel Cary I also would love to see an 89b in 577 if anyone has any pictures.

I’m right there with you Daniel. They’ve moved me past my “but do I need it?” mentality. I believe one is in my future in the next year or so.

To that end I’m playing the new or used game. If new, I probably need to get moving on a trip to Dallas in the next 6 months. Anyone got an English language version of the current (or recent) price structure for new Heym doubles? I’ll probably call Mr Sells if not. Seeing those will give me a better idea of if the used price overcomes my interest in ordering a new one

Please post a picture when you get a chance. I never realised the strong provenance of the 450/400 cartridge, and looking at the large number of people who are choosing it even just in this year I think we will find more manufacturers selling this cartridge into the future.

Easy. Either copy the picture (right click on image and select copy) and then paste into you post OR if it is saved as a file, then click and drag it to your post.

Another method is to click on the image icon at top then click in the pop up and it will bring a file browse window. Then, go ahead and find the file in your computer.

Good luck.

Since I am not a PH, I'd take a Heym 89 in 450/400 and a Heym Martini in 404.

If I was a PH, I'd take a Heym 89 in 500 and Heym Martini in 458 Lott.

Why? Those calibers in both cases, more or less, duplicate ballistics.

Kevin, have you received any correspondence, "eta, Photos", on your Heym? Forgive me if I already asked, 89B in 450/400 if I'm not mistaken?

anyhow, looking forward to seeing it, if you care to share when it arrives!!!

I ordered an 89b in 577 from Chris in March...hoping to get it by Christmas, but that would be on the early end of the delivery window. I’ll be sure to post pics and video as soon as it arrives.

Also, I asked Chris about “progress” photos, and he seemed to think Heym doesn’t do that anymore. I think the reason being is an decent backlog, and busy shop!

How do I get it from my phone to my computer?

email it to yourself. If on the Apple platform then it is even easier as you can "Airdrop" it from phone to the Mac. You can also cut and paste it to a post using the phone's web browser.
