Hi everyone,

I was last year back home in South Africa for a family visit .Here are some photos i thought you all would like to see. All the trophies (horns) were taken by my late Grandfather on his farm. All were shot in the eastern cape SA and some kudu were taken in " South West Africa" today Namibia :) I really treasure these horns and i really miss my grandfather he was a great hunter.......Hope u like them !!

The leopard i was lucky enough to see it with my wife in the Kruger Park (Her first time in SA) !!

Horns consist of:

I think its all maybe one fallow deer :)

Great stuff. Reminds me of my old friend John in Kansas. He is in his late sixties and has taken an incredible buck off his farm nearly every year since deer hunting reopened in the Flint Hills. They are all somewhat randomly tacked up around his equipment barn or piled in convenient corners. Several would likely book.

HI

Hi Red Leg,

Thanks for your input. Yes i totally agree with you im sure there are many farmers and old folks that have hidden away trophies that many people will never see just like your friends trophies these were also in some old storage garage. Your thoughts were exact like mine. Thanks take care.

Barnboard Trophies!

Love to see all the trophies on the wall. Thanks, for posting the pictures. I like to take pictures of other people's animals....plus antler and horn piles. To me it's just part of being a hunter and honoring the animals we hunt.

hi

Hi Enysse,

Thanks for the message. I agree it nice seeing all these trophies that are hidden away in bulk. You know like my late grandpa he was never bothered about trophy sized horns and i dont think he ever measured his animals but i tell you he has shot some record size stuff. Once he also shot back in the day a reedbuck and a klipspringer with one shot :) Anyway take care u all.

Owen, that looks like an eland in one of the photos. I wonder if it came from that immediate area or if he traveled a bit to take him.

Horns

Wow, that is an amazing collection. The single set of Bushbuck horns are huge! Also the Eland horns are very impressive. You Grandfather did well.

Hello

Owen, that looks like an eland in one of the photos. I wonder if it came from that immediate area or if he traveled a bit to take him.

Wow well spotted Red Leg ! I wonder how many people actually saw that !!

Yes it is an Eland and to tell you the truth i dont think anyone knows where he shot that one... probably on his way to Namibia where he took some of those kudu.

By the way on the right wall you will see a large klipspringer trophy.

And on the left wall between the kudu and eland you should see a cape grysbok and a huge duiker.

Thanks again folks for all the kind posts.

OwenOwen, It would appear to me your Grandfather was especially fond of hunting the Bushbuck. Wow what a collection. Thank you for sharing these photos of some of his hunting mementos. Thomas

Hi

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the reply. Yes farm is still in our family ,thats where he grew up and started hunting since he was a little boy. Yes you're correct as much as the bushbuck was my grand dads favorite animal it was his favorite to hunt ( sounds weird ). Dont let the pics trick heheh he was a conservative hunter and till today we have good numbers left :)
thanks guys

Owen u are a lucky man have a beautiful collection of trophies, you must be feeling nostalgic at times, i too have hunted with my grand dad who was very avid hunter he taught me the art of deciphering the sight and sound of the jungles (forest).
Thanks for sharing the snaps of a great collection, do u still hunt at this farm of your family?

Best Regards

Monish

hi

Hello Monish,

Thanks four your kind words. Yes the farm is still in our family and is run by my cousin. Whenever i get a chance i try to visit them (its 7 hrs away from me ) and get to do some hunting or just animal spotting without killing anything,, i try and stalk to see how close i can get :) I just love watching them when i see them in their natural behavior.

regards,

Owen

Gerrit thanks for the comment :)

There has got to be a number of great stories to go with those horns. Hopefully they have been passed down as well. Thanks for sharing.

What an incredible example of a life well lived in the outdoors, as wheels said I bet there are some jaw dropping stories to go along with the collection. Thanks for sharing.
