What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

If you have never done it, and love mechanical time pieces, you might enjoy going to the Royal Observatory at Greenwich.

Determining longitude was a problem that had never been solved. Ships got lost at sea and fleets of ships crashed into rocks at night or in a storm. Everybody thought a star chart or lunar formula would solve the problem. John Harrison, a watch maker determined that longitude could be solved with an accurate time piece that would work even within a raging storm. He spent his life trying to make the perfect time piece. Harrison's multiple attempts are on display at the observatory. He was finally able to solve longitude.

I started with a Timex in grade school, had 5-6 through high school. Was issued a Chronosport UDT in the service, it's beat to shit buy keeps time perfectly. I have I'm Luminox, Pathfinder, Seiko and the one I wear most a Breitling Aerospace.

I've worn it everywhere since I received it 25 years ago. I've never given a thought to value or showing off its just a nice watch I was fortunate to be part of the group it was made for.

I also have 2 375's, a mostly stock Winchester M-70 and Custom M-70. Is that acceptable?

You've had the two 375s more than a few years? And you haven't contracted the big bore addiction disorder? I must refer your case for review. You seem to have some immunity, possibly genetic, but we may be able to isolate it so that it will be available to all those suffering from the disorder. So, has anyone in your direct family been involved with 375s and not succumbed to obtaining yet larger rifles such as 416s, 458s or the dreaded combination of 404s and 470s?

Not to worry I'm looking for a 404 Jeffery to add.

Dont let them pressure you - I had a 375H&H and then went down to a Flanged. What Ruark meant to say was dont use too much gun....
ROTFLMFAO

Thanks, I'd really like to have a 404 someday. My old 375 now has 1019 rounds through it, if I keep shooting I may wear it out in another 10 years or so.

Well, I'll chip in with mine. Been a fan of Swiss Military Hanowa for some time now. Very reasonably priced and quite sturdy:

I never take a watch when I go hunting. Generally if the sun is out I am aware within an hour or so whatime it is but I don’t tend to worry about it. When it starts getting gloamy I head back to camp or the truck. I generally leave in the dark and get back in after dark or whenever I have an animal to get in to butcher.

I don't wear a watch, I don't want to know what time it is or really what day it is.

Hunting here in the wilderness (namely the Gila Wilderness) I am so far from everyone and so tied to everyone it makes me sick to my stomach. On the other side of the planet, I don't want to hear from anyone.

Timex Expedition 365 days a year regardless who what I am doing other than bathing or sleeping.

What point am I missing with this question?

I’m also a scuba diver so I wear my dive watch on the daily. It’s a SEIKO SRP-777 (also known as the Seiko Turtle) with a strap code miltat end mill bracelet. It keeps excellent time and is built like a tank. I think this summer on safari I will keep it covered with a wrist sweatband to reduce glare.

I have a couple Citizen eco drives
Promaster diver (no, I don't dive). It's a sturdy watch. Got the same one for my helo pilot son, except his is black and mine is blue.
Chandler - a little less durable than the Promaster, I shattered the crystal once.

they both keep great time, never need batteries.

and a Luminox, which I really like, but don't like having to replace the battery every couple years.

The Promaster and the Luminox are both luminescent and read-able from sunset to sunrise.. The Chandler is luminscent, but it's so faint after a couple hours, it's impossible to read it.

Compared to my EDC Breitling that I had posted earlier.
Ah I see, I had not read all the posts in the thread. It is just that I usually would not have used the words 'inexpensive' and 'Breitling' in the same sentence :D
It is a beautiful watch however.

I only wear digital watches when hunting/shooting. I like mechanical watches and wear them daily but I’m too worried the violent recoil will damage the precision mechanism.
