Ugh, I managed to put together about 20 3006 cartridges incorrectly. Somehow, I did not bump the shoulder back! Fortunately, they are trimmed to the right length. I figured it out because the bolt gives some resistance when I close it. I checked the die setup on a few fired cases and figured it out.

As they are trimmed correctly, do I care for this fall hunt? If so, how the heck do I deal with these primers when I resize the cases? I am not sure how to dispose of them safely.

Thanks.

Yes, it does but you can feel the bolt is hard to close

Yeah, hard to close is a different animal than just some resistance.

I have removed plenty of live primers. I just use a universal die and push them back out very gently. Clearly wearing eye protection is a must, but that should always be the case. I know you will see people say they even reuse them, I do not and never would.

Can you just remove the deccapping pin when you resize them?
If not sacrifice the 20 primers.

What do you do with the removed primers? I am wondering how to dispose of these live primers safely.

I got rid of a bunch of old primers by soaking them in water for a while. I then just threw them into the trash. I think I had them in the water for a couple of days.

The problem with sizing a case with a primer in it is getting lube onto the primer. It may be alright and then again it may not. But I think that I would try it, just remove the decaping pin from the sizer die and be gentle with the case lube. I would also use a inertia type pullet to get the bullets out along with the powder and then just reuse them.

I have just neck sized many 30/06 rounds , with very light resistance closing the bolt afterwards. Does just a resized case have problems or ones with the bullet seated. Maybe the bullet is the cause of the interference being seated out too far? Are the cases you sized originally fired from that rifle?

That's a very interesting observation. I usually set back about .02 or so. The bolt has a tighter feel than I am used to, but the neck sizing point is a good one. I will check the COL.

I have a couple 25/06 rifles. If I neck size cases fired in one of them there is no hope in heck of closing the bolt if I try to chamber it in the other. I just use one of them so not worried about mixing the brass up, if I were using both rifles I would have an issue if cases were not full length resized and I tried to use it in the one 25.

Have quite a few 6.5x55, and the neck sized rounds all chamber easily amongst each other .

I just have the '06. But, this could be once used that I picked up somewhere. I just don't have confidence in what I have done. The bolt closes, its just stiffer than I am used to

Inertia puller, If reprimed, the old primers could be used for foulers.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Maybe you did collect some cases from another rifle, many have.

Pull them and deprive carefully, it’s just 20 primers.

If they do get stuck or you pull a projectile when you try unload a loaded round it could just be a wasted range trip or worse a hunting trip cut short.

Sound like WD 40 deactivates primer?????

Soak me in water and butt them in the garden to rust. Anything is probably safer than firing dud ammo.

Dig a hole and bury them after soaking them for day or two in a water bottle?

Or pull the bullets, empty the powder then fire them off. I’d think this would be safe. Then resize and deprime as normal.

Don't do any of this. If you can chamber them, even if snug just shoot them. If it takes a lot of effort they may be too much but just snug to slightly hard, shoot. As far as the primers go, if you do decide to pull the ammo down, pop the primers out as suggested and use them again. There is no reason to chuck the primers just because you popped them out, they are fine. Have done this many times. Why waste expensive hard to find components?? Re use them.

Me personally as a relatively new reloader and not having the experience some of the gentleman hear do I would simply dispose of them cases and all, 30-06 cases are easily replaceable and the value of the remains components isnt worth the risk of dealing with them. If they were a super rare caliber I may consider dealing with them but really what are 20 atleast once fired 30-06 cases worth? As compared to the Time effort and risk of injury to deconstruct and then rebuild them.
