"New" Toy - Off Chassis Restoration - 1969 Toyoda Land Cruiser

Great looking ride for bringing that deer in from the back of the property or taking your bride out for a night at Gruene Hall.

Enjoy it for many years!

i just love those old short wheelbase toyotas they turn into bull catchers in the northern territory.
steel bars and steel plate welded on where necessary.
and a hydraulic arm to swing down and grab a scrubber by the neck.
sometimes the bulls take over and hunt the toyota, so look out driver.
the drivers have to just smash through quite big trees and scrub, and avoid anthills while endeavouring to get in close to grab the bull while a helicopter is trying to steer the bull away from the really thick stuff.
women do this job as well as men and are fearless.
once captured the bulls are tied to a tree until they can be winched onto a truck.
the same is done with buffalo.
bruce.

Now THAT I would love to see.

I once owned a '67 109 Land Rover wagon. It was a really neat vehicle and I loved it, but must admit it was a bit of a shop car.

randy,
there is plenty of stuff on google about it.
in the old days guys used to chase them on horses, grab them by the tail and throw them to the ground, and then tie their legs together.
they were called scrub runners..
bruce.

Nice Red Leg, the trick is to use it, air con or not. Get a suitable hat and a pair of Courteneys and you will truly enjoy the ride.
They are relatively common here, this is one just like yours that is in for restoration.

That unit likely has one of those wonderful little Diesel engines in it. Unfortunately Toyota did not bring those in to the USA. Our rigs have straight six petrol engines.

Cool! Thanks I’ll check that out.

Hmm. Well, that is rather patronizing old sod - ;)

I have hats - lots of hats (to include the real ones we occasionally still wear here in Texas) and several pairs of Courteneys. However, because this is Texas, the shelves have quite a few more pairs with names like JB Hill and Lucchese. And like most of us non-urban folks in this country, over the last four plus decades, I always have had 4WD drive vehicles ranging from Jeep CJ7's, to Troopers, to Ford pick-ups. As I look out the window a Range Rover and F250 are keeping the new girl company. But deeply appreciate the mentoring. :sneaky:

I think it must be a Brit former Commonwealth kind of compulsion thing. :A Whistle::E Angel:

This is more for our UK and other right hand drive members. We have recently come across a trove of 13 early series SWB Land Rovers, 9 are series 0 apparently and the rest Series 1. All sorts of condition, two are runners, 4 near runners and others a way to go. Also a shed full of engines, gearboxes, axles, carbs, etc etc. Lots of work, but lots of fun and satisfaction ahead for the owner, if he ever gets it done.

Aye! G&T and all that - wonderful!

Fine looking rig! I nearly froze to death riding to ABasin in Colorado many years ago to ski once. The wind chill was -70f! Only managed a couple of runs and decided a hot toddy at home would work better.
Yep, in Texas an A/C is mandatory these days! I didn’t seem to need them there growing up.
Enjoy your new “Toy”!

For a number of years, I owned a 1941 Chevy truck. It was all original which was cool but that meant it had a non-synchronized transmission and an engine with horsepower that barely reached three digits. I finally found someone eager to take over its stewardship about six-months ago, and had been on the look out for a Defender in good shape. Instead, I stumbled across this old oriental girl a few days ago. It was originally the same Toyoda Voodoo Blue. It's engine and drive train were replaced by a 70's era cruiser system with the larger 4.2 L straight six. It doesn't drive exactly like Nancy's Range Rover, but it is definitely a step up from the '41 Chevy that approached self-destruct velocity at 40 mph. o_O

Plus the color closely matches my shockingly blue eyes..... :cool:

Though I think I am going to have to add an under dash AC unit for south central Texas.
@Red Leg
Good old truck but still has a non synchro first gear. Is the old girl petrol or diesel. I do like the old Toyotas and Nissan .
With those stunningly blue eyes you must be the 5 Ts
Tall
Taught
Trim
Terrific
And terribly modest to go with it.
It must be hard being a handsome, rugged individualist with a great truck.
Bob

I bought one in the same color, new, in 1978. It was one of the first diesel Toys in BC . Great rig. Sold it for what I paid a few years later to help finance an extended trip to South America. Always wanted another. But this is my hunting rig now. Congratulations!

@Rick Cox
That's a bit of a step down in a fun vehicle mate.
Love the older ones , no computers to play up miles from anywhere, simple to fix and maintain.
Bob

@Red Leg I'm a little jealous of your new ride

My wife thinks something like this would be more my speed.
:Bored:
Not sure if if she's referring to the check book or my beer gut.
@RandyF
She could be referring to both mate. At least she has got good taste in the rifle attached to your hunting vehicle
Looked on the bright side fuel expenses are zero, down hill speeds are fantastic, if you get bogged you don't have a problem and great air conditioning.
Downside slow uphill and bloody hard work. Just unstrap the rifle put it in her car and go hunting. Asking for forgiveness is easier than asking for permission and you can always pre book your hospital bed, they should know you well enough softer the fit bit episode.
Bob

reminds of the good old days hunting horses and kangaroos for pet meat.
we used long wheelbase 3 speed petrol cruisers with tray tops.
they only needed 3 gears due to having so much bottom end.
bruce.
@bruce moulds
Didn't know the old tojos came with a 3 speed mate. All I've seen were 4 speed.
The old Nissan tho had a 3 speed as well a low range 2WD as well as low range 4WD.
